In a rare display of courage, I just got off the phone with the consulate in Savannakhet.

What I was told: Current applicants for a tourist visa are required to show income

statements for the last 3 months of not less than 45K THB per month.

When I inquired if someone possessed an adequate balance in their bank book but did

not meet the necessary income stipulations what would an approved balance be?

Consular staff not able to answer that question. Local or home country bank account.

I must add a caveat that this was only a verbal exchange. Nothing printed off, no signed

paper copies attesting to this. It appears that much is still done on a case-by-case basis.

So, that's my good deed for the day. We can be fairly sure I will burn anyway. :o
