Is Sakhon Nakhon Or Udon Thani A Better Place For A New Fridge?

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

I haven't posted much of late.

I'm new to Thailand having traveled there only twice before.

In April I'll be travelling to the North East to take my Thai girlfriend to stay with her family in Kham Ta Kla about 55 kms north of Fang Khon along hwy 222.

Her family, who are very poor, have asked her to arrange the delivery of a new refirgerator from Sakhon Nakhon as theirs is now caput.

Kham Ta Kla is about 165 kms from Udon Thani and about 125 kms from Sakhon Nakhon.

Can any locals advise me on the best place to wheel and deal for a new refrigerator?

I thought, if we could learn what the best deals are in Udon Thani, then we could confidently get a good deal in Sakhon Nakhon with delivery to Kham Ta Kla.

I won't have a suitable vehicle for transport so we'll be looking for dealer delivery.

Any information would be appreciated.

Things like electrical dealers, which models are best, good prices, delivery fees etc.

thanks in advance.

Danny.

Fridges are pretty cheap and available all over the place you don't have to go to the big cities. You could try Sawang Daen Din, not so far from you and a reasonable size town or even some of the smaller towns. You will have problems getting it delivered from Udon or Sakon unless you want to pay what will probably be a ridiculous amount. You can get a fridge for 4000B and a fridge/freezer for 7000B or cheaper mickey mouse manufacturers.

I think you mean 55km north of PHANG KHON . There are electrical appliance dealers in Phang Khon or there is Lotus Tesco in Sawang Daen Din .Lotus deliver free up to a certain distance then you pay for the extra mileage to destination, I am sure you would find a suitable fridge in Phang Khon ,the dealer will be able to arrange delivery (for a fee) discounts are very minimal where-ever you buy and prices shop to shop do not vary much.

Thanks for the advice tubber.

I spotted Sawang Daen Din on the map. A few kilometres before the turn off to highway 222, but much closer than Udon Thani.

What do you consider a ridiculous amount for delivery?

I was thinking that it's either dealer delivery or hiring a truck for a day ( 1,300B ) and wasting my day doing it.

There is Lek Car Hire in Udon Thani with good insurance. If I went that way, would there be truck hire closer?

Cheers Ozzydom I was wondering where Fang Khon was, I know were Phang Khon is an

d it is closer to Kham Ta Kla. I am Scottish so anything other than free delivery is

a ridiculous amount of money, might be a few hundred Baht. Is there nobody your T

hai g/f knows with a pick-up in the village that you can pay a few hundred Baht to take you in and do shop

Thanks ozzydom & tubber.

I'm lousy with my spelling.

I guess Phang Khon seems to be the closest for delivery purposes.

We'll just check out some other towns on the way to make sure the final price is on the money.

I think the family only own motorbikes. They suggested to the GF that I hire a truck for our holiday.

Seems silly to triple our fuel bill over two weeks for the sake of a fridge delivery!

I would buy the refrigerator as close to home as possible; if not Kham Ta Kla, then Phang Khon. Let your TG do the wheeling and dealing. One nice thing about buying at Tesco, just pick out the model you like and pay the price.

I agree with mackayae, its only about 20km from Tesco at Sawang Daen Din to Phang Khon, a baht bus would probably deliver for 300-400 baht

Is Tesco good value, good range, good price type of place?

Can a baht bus be booked for exclusive journeys?

Yes, as it's the nearest superstore! :D

Anything can be booked if you have money! :o

Hi,,

just go to Tesco at Sawang Daen Din ,,, good variety there and as good a price as anywhere else ,, only thing wrong , if you have a problem with the product they have to send it to BK (so l am told) , where as if you get from an electrical store l think it will get repaired onsite (or close to it) but l dont think they have the variety ,,,,if you have trouble with delivery ,, give me a yell and we can work something out in Kham Ta Kla,, easy done

Is Sawang Daen Din comparable in size, and in general services, to Sakhon Nakhon?

My TG says their family's major town is Sakhon Nakhon.

They live in Kham Ta Kla.

Thanks Egg.

It's good to know there are aussie friends close by if you get into trouble.

It sounds like you live in Kham Ta Kla.

Is there a reasonable hotel motel nearby?

Which footy team do you follow?

Don't know that it'll be approriate for me to stay at the family home.

Looks like I might be doing the resort thing.

Sounds like a swimming pool is out of the question.

I'm not fussy though. Air con, bed, shower, tv, & dunny.

What more can one ask for?

I should save a heap at those rates too.

If you know a better resort to stay at, please let me know.

Is there a good pub in Kham Ta Kla?

NAB cup starts in 12 days.

St Kilda v Richmond Telstra Dome 15 Feb 7.40pm might interest you.

I'm a Demons fan myself only I've lost the passion in recent years.

Enough said about Magpie supporters.

I'm surrounded by them at work. :D

A lifes highlight was when the loudmouthed Magpie supporters would go silent when their team ended up getting done by the Dee's.

Did you, Ozzydom, and Bergen fall in love with Thai ladies and ended up settling down in the Isaan region?

Maybe we can catch up for a Tiger/Singha or two when I visit. I understand a stubbie is around 22B - 25B form a supermarket.

I'm planning a trip around April.

Lets just say that some six years ago I met a lady I was comfortable with , that L .O .V . E. word I think was only dreamed up to put in song titles.

Yes mate I am only an hours drive from where you will be so I look forward to catching up while your here.

Met my wife first time 10 years ago. Been married 6 y in March. She's not Isaan, but she (and her family) had land here, so that's why..................and ........oh yeah, I'm in for a Singh any time, although I fear it might not be so often, since we live 3-4 hours away from each other.

But if you ever come to Ubon "down under" :D , and visit my pub :o , first beers will be on me :bah:

You, Egg, & Ozzydom sound so lucky.

Maybe one day I'll also retire and live in Thailand.

One thing that draws me are the many Meditation Centres where I could practice contemplation.

Perhaps discover the answer to life.
