What Can I Grow In My Garden?

Featured Replies

Hi, I will be moving from the UK to Hua Hin later this year, I am having a house built and the garden will be pretty much barren apart from one mango tree and a coconut palm, the builder is going to plant jasmine bushes all around the perimiter of the property, I have always been a keen gardener in the UK and would like to continue this in my new home, so my question is what will grow in my new garden i.e. fruit and vegetables, and is there somewhere local that I can buy them?

Thankyou in advance.

Hi Russell1

I myself have just moved to Hua Hin having lived in Thailand for 8 years.

Previously I had a 3 Rai garden and can assure you that ANYTHING will grow here in LOS providing you pay attention to the sun and shade situation.

It's very much trial and error as to which plants live/die in the sun/shade.

My suggestion would be to arrive here, take a look at other mature gardens, establish the above criteria and plant accordingly.

Another clue is to scour the flower/plant sellers and see what they shade and leave in the sun.

Plenty of places selling everything you'll need

Hope you "bloom" in LOS :o

good advice, however, cold weather and cool weather crops will not thrive regardless of shade conditions,

Yeh, yeh. Apples, Cauliflowers, Cucumbers and Tulips are doing well in your garden.

You must be one of the richest foreigners in Thailand.

As an avid palm tree lover/grower please look here at my Uk garden http://home-and-garden.webshots.com/album/...paQKzu?start=12 . Just think there are thousands of varieties of palm trees that can be grown many different colours from magnificent Bismarckia Nobilis's to exotic huge leaved Caryotas (check google) low maintenance and stunning for many many years.
