Electronic whizzes

Featured Replies

This is a long shot - but I'm wondering if anyone out there is a closet (or professional) electronic whiz.

Basically - I am looking to develop a remote activated digital still camera which is triggered by a motion detector.  Before you all start calling me a deviant  ???  - let me explain it is for low-impact recording of wildlife in remote forests.

An example of what I am after can be found at this website:

CAMERA TRAPS

I am after the components to make a similar digital model (without all of the gratuitous deer shots in the above web page)

The one catch is that I also need one which will trigger a remote upload (by radio/wireless data link) to a receiving station some miles away.

This is a strange one - but any tips would be appreciated.  If you think you have what it takes email me on my private mail link to discuss further.

Check out www.allthings.com.au They have some interesting devices which may assist you.

We built a similar system for outdoor surveillance using one of their cameras, utilising infra-red led's for obversation at night in complete darkness. The camera is connected to a laptop which uploads snapshots and/or live video to a secure web site via cellphone using GPRS.

Jade, thanks...

I got in touch with allthings a couple of months back - they do have some good equipment which I dont know how to put together.

When I asked for sales assistance by email - they replied ever so politely that if I didnt know what I wanted then they weren't going to help me!!

We do not recommend equipment for specific situations........  Allthings Sales
 ???

I think the laptop option you mentioned is good.  I can get a cheap secondhand one in Bangers, attach the camera and a wireless modem - and put it in the jungle to test.  I dont have the GPRS option (or even GSM) as the island is well out to sea.

Still open to any other suggestions from any other electronic boffins in the forum?

SeaVision,

I have no idea about electronics, Cameras etc etc,

Not sure if this Website could help, I am probably way of the mark but  www.spyville.com    ???
