My wife and I tried to extend my current O in Bangkok but I work for myself and don't have the paperwork they want. We were 30 in que at immigration (I brought my wife and child thinking that being a family man would have some influence on their decision, don't laugh, I know better now,) after 1 hour they called up 3 numbers. Instead we stopped a few officials and asked details and was told I would need a work permit because it was my first time applying for an extension. Was also told pooling our funds was not enough, if I didn't have a work permit they would want a notarized statement from my wife's employment that her salary meets the total. I don't bother anymore trying to show people my records of how much I'm spending in this country, it just seems to annoy them.

I received my last O visa in Penang, I'm wondering if it is possible to get an O visa in Phnom Pehn, Cambodia? Any reason not to do that. Any advantage for going for a double entry TV somewhere instead?

I ask about the 60 day tourist because of the posts stating that people are obtaining multiple entry TVs in Vientiane. For a rough total of somewhere around 9,000 B in visa fees, (quick estimate, not sure,) travel to Laos, two wasted days at the 60 day marks, and cost of a border run that would give 6 months. The only advantage I can find to the O visa is if you are able to extend it. Since I am unable to extend my O visa I wonder if a double TV is a better way to go maybe.

Is it possible to get a 30 day visa at a border and convert it to a 90 day O at Bangkok immigration? I'm looking for the answers myself but I have a lot of trouble sorting through what's outdated info and what is valid and what is just B/S.

I'm probably going back to Penang I guess, I really wanted another delicious glass of warm "lemon ice" with a dead bug floating in it while waiting for the consular to open anyway. NO, NO COKE!!! (then sheepishly) you want to drink lemon ice??? OK!!! GO SIT DOWN!!!

By the way, I saved a taxi ride fare by taking a bus to the consular in Penang the next day. And I saved another 300 baht by waiting at the bus stop until a motorcycle driver offered to give me a ride to the airport after I got my visa. 80km/h with the pouring rain pelting my face like bullets with no helmet and *Gollum at the handlebars. Recommended? NO. I was still drenched when I got on the bus in Bangkok, with the air conditioned bus it was the only time I've ever been cold here.

(*Actually Gollum probably had more teeth than this guy did.)

You can only change to single entry non immigrant O visa at Immigration if part of the extension of stay process; which you have a problem doing. The O visa is also better when dealing with various government departments in Thailand (drivers license for example). Believe Singapore will still issue multi entry if you can show 400k in a bank account somewhere and have marriage/id documents.
