Standard Waiting Time Between Job Interview And Offer Of Employment

Featured Replies

Is there a standard waiting time between interview for a teaching position in Thailand and an offer of employment? Will some places offer a job on the spot? Is this a sign of desperation?

I know that in my last profession you would need to wait a period of time between job interview and any offer.

In my experience it has ranged anywhere from 2.5 seconds to two days. Then of course, as Mr. Florin has stated, some of them never call back which is a fortunate thing in many cases.

HR in Thailand is quite dysfunctional, in my opinion...they're lazy to write back even a courtesy reply to job ad e-mails and take their sweet time with just about all operations.

I've been hired on the spot and have also had situations where if I wouldn't have called the idiots back myself I wouldn't have gotten the job...it's difficult to estimate, really.

mbkudu is correct.

I once applied for a job in BKK online. I hit the send button on the job application page. I then loged into my e-mail to check that I got the confirmation e-mail. Before I even had time to type my pasword into my e-mail, my phone rang in my pocket and it was them! I was so surprised that I wasn't even prepared. So when mbkudu said 2.5 seconds, he was only 7.5 seconds out in my case. I actually thought that some system actually sent an sms with the applicants number to the boss as soon as the application was recieved and automatically dialed the number. Unless the loser who handled the application usually sits up a 9pm waiting for applications to arrived, I still don't know how they called so quick. Desperation is also evident in this case, however, that particular school didn't seem too bad.

Yes, varying between 2.5 seconds and never. My first job, I knew they desperately needed a replacement to teach their best classes. Second job, new program, hired on the spot (two months after they knew I'd be needing that job on May 15!). Next offer, immediate (I turned it down, 200 baht an hour, crappy job). Next, more or less on the spot, pending the owner's approval (another dumb job after two years of better experience; oh well).

I only recall getting one email back from a very nice DOS, telling me I was well qualified but they gave the job to another applicant. That boss left soon after, in a dispute with incompetent management.

Garro, you still have time; keep trying and be patient. I could afford to say no and stop working; I think you can't.

It depends on how badly they want you, and perhaps one how easily they can trick you into accepting a lousy job!
