It's been discussed here so many times...but I have not been able to find a picture of one. I tried googling and everything. What do they look like? Thanks.

There's a Platinum website (see link below) - take care though as the site tries to run an ActiveX control. If their programming is anywhere near as unreliable as their bikes, your computer may explode :o I was looking at the site in Firefox which is immune to the horrors of ActiveX.

Have a look at the Platinum website

On the left hand navigation there are some light brown/yellowy colour buttons - if you hover over them the different Platinum bike models popup and you can see them on the product detail pages (I can't read Thai).

There's even some pictures of massed Platinums at a BIB parade - that's got to be one very juicy maintenance contract!

I wonder, is it allowed on Thaivisa to negatively discriminate, or accuse a person, company or publication on paper or by any other expressions (which includes online like a website) without any evidence? Which is to my knowledge prohibited by Thai law.

Expressing an opinion on a product is not discrimination. It's an opinion.

The word 'crap' is subjective anyway. One man's crap bike is another man's dream bike.

example: I owned a Harley Davidson one time. It was a piece of crap in my opinion. I'll never buy another as I don't want a bike that vibrates too much, leaks oil, and various parts disintegrate from time to time. Of course, there are A LOT of people who fawn over the Harley Davidson......their opinion.

Do you mean like this example of yours from another thread.

Now-a-days you have two (official) distributors the first Synnex and the second is the USA giant Ingram-Micro.

And yes we have no problems with Synnex service, our problem is only with Ingram Micro. And we therefore want to warn people who know, belief, or expect real lifetime (which is to European Law 10 years) warranty.

So Kingston lifetime warranty products by Synnex is good, and Kingston lifetime warranty products by Ingram-Micro is better not buy.

I have no problems with Kingston Memory, only with a distributor who translate the warranty of the manufacturer wrong. And, as computer memory, can be one of the more expensive parts of a computer I tell people to be alert.

I would not expect a "super moderator" to pull postings from a whole other topic to make a point. I would say keep it with motorcycles, and discus computer parts in the IT section. It is for people who not read the IT selection a bit confusing to just pull one posting and post it here as example.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Quote from the Kingston website, regarding Lifetime Warranty;

Lifetime Warranty: †

The following Kingston products are covered by this warranty for life:

Memory modules including ValueRAM, HyperX and Kingston system specific memory, Flash memory cards (e.g. Secure Digital, CompactFlash, MultiMediaCard, SmartMedia) ATA Flash, and Linear Flash; memory expansion-boards, networking adapters; routers, hubs and switches without cooling fans (excluding the power supply), Flash adapters and microprocessor upgrade products.

† 10 year warranty in France, Germany and Austria

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

To say it simple, people on this board seem to overreact if it is about Platinum Motorcycle's, even if they never owned one or touched one. I'm not in favor of Platinum myself, but I belief that everybody should have a fare treatment.

My earlier reaction in this treat is also a bit of a over reaction. It seems that Platinum Motorcycle has that effect on everybody.

Platinum bikes are reaching another level, notorious.

On the other hand, my PX175 is a lot of fun, and I am lucky to live and ride on a small island and I have a great inexpensive mechanic that has made all the necessary modifications.

Richard ,Your post was interpreted by me as as questioning members rights to express a personal opinion as to the merits or otherwise of a product and of Thaivisa for allowing their opinions to be posted.

I see no sign of any discrimination or casting aspersions on companies or even distributors in this thread, just posters airing their personal opinion of the product as is their right.

Dont forget ,many people use these threads in their appraisals of products prior to final decisions on purchasing.

I personally, dont have an opinion on Platinum bikes but I respect the views of those who do.

Hi, Thanks for the reply, and I am glad we can all get together as a forum of motorcycle enthusiasts in Thailand. The reason I asked was that I wanted to see if the "Platinum" had a different name in the states...and it looks like they do, the "Lifan". $895 USD NEW for a 200cc bike:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Other-Makes...sspagenameZWDVW

And getting back to the original post, yes I think these bikes are generally crap. However, for the price, you expect that you are getting crap, so as such it's good crap. And as for the issue of defamation, in the American legal system, not every derogatory thing is actionable. Calling someone an idiot, or saying someone's product is crap, is free expression. THe problems are if you allege improper business dealings, illegality, dishonesty, and other things that can be a problem. Saying "so and so" is a lazy worker, is not grounds for a defamation suit. Saying "so and so" is a child molester is sufficient to do a defamation claim.

The Lifan engines are fitted to probably 95% of the motorcycle type tuk-tuks here in Los, websites state that most parts are interchangable with Honda parts.

quote=

Nearly all Lifan engines and components are interchangeable with Honda parts, These engines are built under strict quality control regulations. All our Lifan engines come with Transmission, kick starter, gear shifter, CDI, rectifier, Coil, Spark plug, Carburetor, gasket, intake manifold and carburetor bolts.

This engine will fit the following bikes

CM 200, CRF150, CRF230, SL175, TLR200, TR200, XL175, XL185, XL200, XR185, XR200 (Some modifications may be required)

From Google search it seems that the Lifan engines are not pirated Honda but actually 30year old designs that Honda passed up the rights to and sold the tooling to the Chinese manufacturer, so they are a 30 year old design but fitted with modern upgrades such as CDI.

Probably much the same as Austin selling their tooling to Japan and which became Nissan/Datsun in their next life.

Lifan engines 'with bored Honda technology' are probably not illegal in China (for now), as you explain they have a history with Honda, but let me make clear that any Lifan motorcycle outside China at any moment. Even if somebody wants to cross the border, can be confiscated.

Even in China, Lifan fights a losing battle... Honda wants Chinese government behind his Jet engine production, China loves this, free from the US dominated market. Only one small thing, trademark and copyright enforcement of all Honda products in China.

Not get it wrong most Chinese companies pay for the use of Honda technology....

I own a Platinum bike and I am very happy with it. Everything is perfect for me.

However, as I have moved to another country, anyone interested in buying it at a very reasonable price, including other stuff.

I think you will find it's a tough sell. Even at a reasonable price. Regarding the posts above, the engines are the best part of these bikes IMHO.
