Traditional Thai Wood House - And All Affiliated Subtopics

Recommended Posts

hello everybody, this is my 2nd post, and it is a pleasure to be on a forum to be able to discuss communily things about and concerning life in thailand.

i am a 24 year old brit, who had the great fortune of travelling to thailand as a first stop on a world tour! it was then somewhat unexpected to meet my now wife, partner, friend and inspiration as well as the most humerous woma (whooops).......person in the world.

sorry about that but its backstory to why i am here writing this!

okay i am wanting to build a traditional thai house prefabricated either new or from old rice barns or smilar houses that are constructed of wood! that is unless there are suggestions contrary to which other materials would be more advisable.

i am looking to get land in chiangmai not sure on plot size, but i am looking to build it into a guesthouse where myself and my wife,(eventually my kids when we have them) will live permanantely. we will hope to also build guest lodges and add more as we grow as a business or as we are dictated to by our growth.

i am aware of the ridiculous number of guest houses in thaialnd let alone chiangmai, but it is not without proper thought that i have suggested and am confident in the type of guest house that would corner a niche in the market.

i am looking for any advice for buying land, construction of traditonal wood houses, do's and donts, business info, anything that could relate more insight then i have at the moment.

just to add one part of which i am concerning myself with is to be eco friendly, i know that in the uk that the price of solar set against utility electric energy is at such a cost people wont use solar even though long term benefits will always be reflected and peace of mind in clean living. in deed wind is more effective, though i believe, since being in thailand my sneezes produce more air movement then natural wind this is not functional. i know there are lots of different sources for application of sustainable energies as well as your house being thoughtfully configured to make the most of winds to cool the house rather then a/c(as my wife suffers from a weak chest and cough). i am also looking into electric mopeds or for that matter electric bikes, really just interested in anything anyone has to add however diverse and hopefully just as long and i hope just as much info, bt maybe a little more interesting.

anyway thanks alot for your help i look forward to reading your replies.

ben :o
