The Most Painful Thing

Featured Replies

Just a rant.......

I just endured one of the most painful things [iMHO] that a falang parent in a thai/falang relationship can [has to] go thru.

and that is going to one the too many school functions thru out the year. This time, it was a student show and the school officials make it so long winded and boring, having to spend so much time listening to "yack yack" in thai, over too loud and distorted speakers and having to endure silly performances of OPK [other people's kids].

Makes me have a new respect for my parents for enduring my school shows.

Do others have the same rant as me???

Our last one was outside in the rain! The bright red and white lights were behind the stage pointed at us blinding me! And yes the speakers left ringing in my ears for hours. The other parents all rushed the stage to get the best picture with their cell phones! Because of the rain all the make-up on the kids had run ,,,making them look well,,,, they are all sooo cute! Some were talented! Singing traditional country songs and dances. I actually enjoyed the show after all the yak yak, a few beers and the music started. the local grilled satay made it for me!

Was that at Suan Dek, San Kamphaeng? We were there yesterday for the show. I was very apprehensive before the event, as the schedule seemed to indicate 90 minutes of speeches & prize giving before the show by the kids - & that's all the parents probably want to see. Went much quicker than that, thank buddha, & the whole thing was ok. I HATE PA sytems in Thailand & have walked out of Carrefour a couple of times at least, abandoning trolley laden with groceries, due to painful unending announcements from the hel_l bitch in fruit & veg going on & on at earsplitting sound levels. Or maybe you were at another school in the area?

Yes, it was there at Suan Dek.......and I had to stay until the end as my girl's show was the last. I did see a few more falang faces there, but none toward the end.....you must have bailed early?

And a big YES to your rant on the 'vegetable bitch' at carrefour...she makes me want to throw a watermellon at her. and I've also sought the solitude of the parking lot to get a break from her loud ramblings. I really don't think that if I understood Thai, the loud yack-yack would be any more tolerable.

Yep, out of the hall to give our son a big hug as he came offstage. In all the excitement, we clean forgot to go back in to see the rest of the show :o

Other parents are supporting YOUR kids so you should be considerate and support THEIRS.

School functions are about marketing, show as well as procedure and with young children it shouldn't run so long but that's not the most painful thing a parent has to endure.I watched as my son who had pneumonia had IV drips in his head and feet because his hands couldn't take the needles anymore. He was just 13 months at the time.

Think yourself lucky you can watch your children and be sensitive to others.

In our city, the school lets every child perform to build up their confidence. I support this but I don't like the loud sound too and my ears are shaking when being there. I managed through. Some first year pupils just stood on the stage and cried :o Overall I enjoyed the evening.
