You might be able to extend 7 days, as on any entry. If you have proof of fatherhood you might be able to use section 7.23 of current immigration rules to obtain a one time sixty day extension of stay to visit. As copy of Thai national ID card is a stated requirement, and child has none, this might require mothers approval/id card (or not be required - you can ask Immigration) - the stated requirements are as below:

1. Application form (TM.7 with 4x6cm current photo and 1,900 baht)

2. Copy of applicant’s passport

3. Copy of census registration (this would be home register listing the person)

4. Copy of the Thai national’s ID Card

5. Copy of marriage certificate or birth

certificate

Edit: if over age 50 there is another option available.

Hi, I wonder if you could explain the option for over 50s. I'm a bit confused about the whole Non Immigrant "O" thing. Mine was issued in Melb. Aus. I requested a multiple but they wrote "2".

I'ved used one and I presume I'll have to fly back to Aus in early April to get another. Hopefully this time they'll give me a multiple. I'm over 50 and have funds but want to stick with the Non O for a bit. Is this wise.

If you have the time to make any suggestions I'd appreciate it.

By the way they didn't stamp an "until" date on my TM. 6 when I came back to LOS on 10 Jan.

Cheers

As a family member of a Thai under section 7.17 section 5 allows a parent over age 50 to live with there Thai child.

If you want to use O visa entry for awhile perhaps Brisbane would be a better place to apply for the multi entry type.

TM.6 stamp seems to be hit and miss - some get and some don't - not sure if there is any firm policy. As long as you have in passport should not be an issue. Try to remember where it is if a lot of pages.

Excellent, Thanks for that. No worries on the TM6 which is good.

I was wondering why Brisi would be better than Melb. It'll mean an extra flight etc. But if needs must. What about Perth?

Thanks again for your help

Sounds like you still have one entry left. If so, cross a border and come back in. If you go to Australia for a multi, avoid the Melbourne Consulate ( it is anti multi's ), go to Brisbane or Perth. www.thaiconsulate.org

Did they mark your visa with numbers 1 and 2 or used? If not they probably did not see the visa - did you write the information on your arrival card? You can try a visit to Immigration if you think it was a mistake but if there is no mark of using your visa you will probably need to make a border run this week to obtain a 90 day entry using your visa. Be sure to check the stamp after arrival.

Hi,

Visa stamped "USED" 10 Jan 2008

Stamp says "Visa class TV" 10Jan 2008, Admitted until 9 MAR 2008

If this was your first entry there are two errors that need to be corrected - visit Immigration.

1. Visa is two entry so should not be stamped "used" - it should have the number 1 and the date that was used. You would then be able to exit/return for your second entery.

2. You were provided a 60 day stay (tourist visa) rather than the permitted 90 days of a non immigrant visa.

You do have a non immigrant O visa and not a 2 entry tourist visa?

It says;

NON IMMIGRANT VISA at the top

Visa Number 3668 / 2550

Category "O"

Good for "two" journeys

This visa must be utilised before

04 MAR 2008

if passport remains valid

Issued on 04 SEP 2007

squiggled signature

EXTENSION OF STAY NOT PERMITTED

They've written on it

1 and stamped 10 SEP 2007

2 nothing

but then further down stamped USED 10 JAN 2008

When I came in on this visa they stamped me in as Non O 10 SEP 2007

Admitted until 08 DEC 2007

no worries

But the last time I came they stamped it as a tourist visa for 30 days.

AAAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHH

Immigration should be able to fix it. That would give you until early April.

The immigration agent probably just forgot to change the date on his stamp.

That answers our other question - you arrived last year and used the first entry - this year you used the 2nd entry so the visa is used (so that stamp is OK). But you only received a 60 day stamp rather than the 90 day stamp. So you need to change that at immigration. Should not be a big issue as happens daily. Another reason to always check your stamp as you leave the desk.

Let's hope so. I've emailed the Pattaya Immigration office and tried to call them but there's no reply. I gues I'll just have to go there.

Thanks for all your help and YES I will be checking the stamps from now on.

Happy Days

To finish the saga.

I went to Pattya Immigration this am.

Told by pale faced office on info/reception that the mistake could not be rectified in Pattya. I must go to BKK!

"Err OK, BKK City or Airport?"

"Airport can make"

"Must I pay?'

"Maybe"

"Oh, and there's no way I can rectify the mistake here?"

"wait please"

2 minute absence

"OK can make here. Pay 1900bht."

"Why must I pay? It's not my mistake."

"Up to you. Go BKK, maybe pay. Pay here no problem"

BIG SMILE

"OK thank you, but you understand my problem?"

"Up to you"

Brief conversation with g/f. I'm not tremendously impressed. g/f has conversation with officer.

g/f is told that;

maybe must pay BKK.

maybe office shut.

maybe open Monday.

maybe have problem as mistaken stamp means must depart by Monday.

"OK" says I "will I get a receipt?"

BIG SMILES

"No, no receipt, up to you. Pay here or go to BKK. Maybe pay BKK. Up tp you"

He smiles, I smile. He knows I know. He doesn't give a toss.

I pay.

He puts money in pocket

Pulls out a pen and adjusts date on tourist stamp and adds a squiggle of a signature.

SMILES

"Kop khun kap"

Right " thanks mate"

We leave.
