I had to go to work abroad for quite a long time. So dog hotel as usual was out of question. Fortunately I have a Thai friend in the provinces who liked our dog and volunteered to take care of her. I called her as soon as I had landed. To make a long story short: the whole family fell in love with the dog and they asked me to buy them a puppy, so we could swap: we take back our old dog and they get a pup, because in the provinces there are none. So out we went and bought a pup, same colour, same markings, same breed. Look at what a sweetie we got her!

Anyway, after the change she called me and said nobody in her family really liked the pup. She does not look like ours (which she will once she is grown as I explained to her). She herself is okay, but does not adore her to the extent she did our dog. Now we are very sad. We had kept the pup in our house for one night and fell in love as well. She is super well behaved, did not whine at night, has immediate trust, wagged her tail whenever she saw us, reacted when being scolded (tried to chew some cables and dropped them after a sharp "NO"), knew what was expected from her when we took her outside... how could somebody possibly NOT love her?

seems like a nice pup, why not just keep that one for you? as long as your other dog is in good hands. Or I guess you could offer them money as a gift for looking after your dog (that might help things along) and keep both of them. ?? perhaps.

Very cute puppy!!!! Sorry about your sad experience.

Maybe best to keep both dogs yourself.

Yes, you are right, and I forgot to tell you the most important thing: we are about to leave Thailand and have already arranged the transport and everything vet-related for our dog. The pup is just too young to fulfill the obligation to have a 30-day old rabies vaccination. If we would not move to another country, I would not hesitate to keep the pup. Now we only hope that somehow the puppy will use its charm and turn this family around.

why not post it on this forum for sale or for free in the pinned notice board ???

i dont understand the family...they asked for a pup and got a pup!!!!!do they understand the concept that a pup is not yet the same as when fully grown...its personality and quirks grow with the dog.oh well

That echoes our thoughts completely! No pointed snout? Well it is a PUPPY and the pointed snout will be there! Not the same legs? Of course it is a puppy and has no straight legs. No tight skin? Pardon me, puppies' skin is a bit loose! (and we all find it very cute) Problem is: my friends are in the provinces. They originally had wanted to come to Bkk to pick up the pup (and bring back our old dog), but because our schedules coincided half-way we had a road-side dog swap. But I will tell them to maybe give it up for adoption.

I am also quite angry because I chose the puppy with my friend on the phone and also mailed pictures!

Just cannot understand why somebody who can love an old grey-haired dog cannot love a pup (and a very well behaved one, too). :o

Hi everybody,

I just talked to my friend again. She wants to "get rid" of the puppy! So I posted, as people suggested, in the thread "for sale or free". Please please do direct people who want to have a small, clean, independent dog to this thread. Thanks.

hope he/she will find a new home very soon. unwanted there it will surely not have a very nice life...

Reading the thread I got bummed out. But thinking about it, it's got some good in it. At least these people told you they didn't want it as opposed to tossing it aside, and at least you are trying to do the right thing. I know, it's not a great situation or overly helpful, but I offer the observation, to cheer those reading the thread like me that feel bad.

hi,where is the dog now? in bkk?

No no, it is in Korat. My friend took the puppy home first and then called me saying nobody likes it. :-( Should have said so before!

Is the puppy still in Korat with your friend? Any idea what she is asking for it?

edit/ if the pup is still there, best is to get it out of there asap because if it so much unwanted it can do quite some damage to the behavior of the little animal, making replacement more and more difficult.

...me thinks they rather do not understand the concept that an animal is not a toy that you can get rid off once it starts boring you.

Is the dog a Miniature Pincher (Min Pin) if so they are great dogs, I have 3 in bed with me now as I work on internet, easy to house train, very loving, ears will go up to point as they get older. Someone take her/him or bring her to Pattaya and I will.

No chance for ears to go up. It's a dachshound.

As some will know I have been trying to persuade my wife to get a dog for some time now - I would love to and distance is not a problem for the right pup. but it depends on my wife who is currently more focussed on having a baby than on having a dog... I thought we could do both.

Anyway I'll report back shortly!

Sorry to say. but personally I think your wife is quite right. A baby takes an enormous lot of time, day and night, especially for the mother. Then, having to raise a pup as well, can be just a little too much, resulting in the pup lacking the necessary education, which is even more important when their is a baby around. A pup that lacks the necessary education can grow up into an unruly dog, that can become a danger to the baby, then toddler, then little child etc.

So, unless you are completely aware of this and are willing to commit your time and energy to a proper education of your new dog as well as to the baby, it may work out well. But, please, do not underestimate the whole thing. Having to go out of your bed several times a night because the baby cries and the dog needs to do its pee or poo (be toilet trained), is quite nerve wrecking after a few days, while this will go on for weeks.

Maybe it is better to wait till the baby is bit older, say one year old, and then take a puppy. But then still, you need to invest considerable time in the education of your dog.

Is your wife pregnant? How far along? I think 3 months to train a pup and give it a lot of TLC should make for a stable well trained dog especially if you are retired and home a lot not off to work each day.
