I just returned with my new Tourist Visa which I got in Hong Kong. No problems at all. I asked for and received 2 entries at a cost of 460HK$ (just under $60USD). The guy asked me why I wanted 2 and I told him I wanted to travel to other countries as well. It worked. They didn't require a plane ticket or hotel booking. I stayed at a nice hotel which cost about $100USD/night (free high speed Internet - faster than you get around here). It was right next to the metro station and just two stops away from the Thai Consulate.

Seconded. Thank you for going to the trouble to post and keep people informed.

HK did not previously have a good rep and this would indicate a change in sentiment.

Thanks again, it's post like this that are the backbone of thaivisa and which no longer seem to get the recognition they deserve... so hats off to you. :o

What was your visa history? i.e. how many previous tourist visas did you have in your passport?

An important point which I forgot to mention. I had one Double Entry Tourist Visa which I got in Helsinki last July. So this will effectively make one continuous year worth of tourist visas. I guess a better test will be if I try for #3 next fall. If so, I'm thinking of checking out Singapore in the process.

For some reason I'm under the impression if I go to different countries for the visa - and not one of the close & cheap country options - then the consulate will be more likely to give what I want. Any truth to that?
