What is it with "dot heads" and abbreviating every word in a sentence, leaving out the vowels? Are there no vowels in hindi?

Yes, you can set up a company here to operate a business in the IT/software sector. Lots of people do it. Setting up the company is easy - earning money isn't. To a large extent, software/IT is viewed here as a commodity item - it is REALLY hard to differentiate your company.

The BOI does offer priority incentives to companies in the IT/software/e-commerce field. But - there is a BIG catch - to be eligible to apply for BOI promotion, you MUST be investing at least 1,000,000 baht, NOT INCLUDING cost of land, or working capital. Mreaning: you must invest at least 1,000,000 baht in depreciable property - work stations, vehicles, capital equipment, etc. Thsi is very hard for most shoestring IT startups. They don't care if you invest 10,000,000 baht in cash - unless this is spent on pre-approved (by BOI) capital assets, they will not issue a BOI Certificate.

Cheers!

the majority of the foreign run IT firms I know of here are organised around having operations in Thailand but a client base outside of Thailand.

That's the way to take advantage of the $600/month software engineers
