March 16, 200818 yr Hi, I have a question if anyone is able to answer it. I am a New Zealander traveling to Thailand soon, so I have been reading this website to find out as much as i can about the Visa process, I'm a little confused with the length of stay. Being a Newzealander I can enter Thailand and stay for 30 days without Visa. My plan then was to apply for a 60 day tourist Visa. I see you can apply to extend the Tourist Visa by 30 days. Does this mean the maximum I can stay is 90 days alltogether (regardless of how long it took to get 60 day tourist visa + the 30 day extention add on)? or I can stay for up to 120 days? (if i get my 60 day tourist visa approx 1 month after first arriving, then aplpying for a 30 day extension) Anyones help would be appreciated. Thanks.
March 16, 200818 yr many ways you can do so not a problem, but I'llpresume your in new Zealand is it not possible to get one there from Thai embassy, save a lot of hassle for you!
March 16, 200818 yr Without an onward ticket you may not be allowed on a flight here as the 30 day visa exempt stamp requires that. It will be up to the airline - be much better to obtain the tourist visa prior to travel. You can stay up to 90 days using visa exempt entry in a six month period. There is no limit on how long you can stay using visa entry.
March 16, 200818 yr I suggest you apply to the local Thai Embassy/Consulate for a double entry Tourist visa. This way you can stay 120 days without any further applications/extensions in Thailand. You will however need to do a border run, out and then in again just before day 60.

You will however need to do a border run, out and then in again just before day 60. Just note that if you leave and come back on the same day, that day will count twice. Once for the last day of the first entry, and one for the first day of the second entry.
March 16, 200818 yr If you get the 60 Day visa you can apply for 30 day extension at your local immgration office in Thailand and then another 15 day extension for maxium total of 105 days.
March 17, 200818 yr No you can not. Only the 30 day extension of stay is semi-automatic (and some have only received 7 days) and there are no 15 day extensions anymore - the max would be 7 days.

(if i get my 60 day tourist visa approx 1 month after first arriving, then aplpying for a 30 day extension) It actually doesnt matter if you apply in NZ first ( beside it saves a bunch of hassle) TravellingKiwi, you have the following options: A) VoA 30 Days - Than KL, Penang, Singapore, where so ever obtain a Tourist visa (60 Days) , than go to you immigration and get 30 days more, after that you can do two border runs = 180 days total Tourist visa (60 Days) at home , than go to you immigration and get 30 days more (fee 1900 baht),3 visa runs possible = 180 days total C) 2 border runs than tourist visa ...... and so on = 180 Days
March 17, 200818 yr Sorry, but consulates in the region are tightening up, especially Penang. Why take the risk. Get your double entry visa before you leave NZ.
March 18, 200818 yr A) VoA 30 Days - Than KL, Penang, Singapore, where so ever obtain a Tourist visa (60 Days) , than go to you immigration and get 30 days more, after that you can do two border runs = 180 days total Tourist visa (60 Days) at home , than go to you immigration and get 30 days more (fee 1900 baht),3 visa runs possible = 180 days total C) 2 border runs than tourist visa ...... and so on = 180 Days a. VoA is 15 days and he is not eligible - visa exempt is 30 days and requires onward ticket which he does not have - so airline may refuse to let him board. Penang and Singapore currently will not issue a tourist visa without tickets from reports. b. Best choice - but even that could be complicated by a request for ticket during extension process as was happening for some last year. But it is probably safe and only downside would be a 7 day extension rather than 30 days. c. Initial flight into Thailand again problematic as in choice 'a' above.
March 18, 200818 yr I think b. also relies on 3 visa exempt entries. So he would run into problems with not having a ticket out of Thailand in 30 days. Really the best bet is just to get a double entry tourist visa from NZ prior to leaving. Then you can stay for 60 days, extend at immigration for another 30 days (probably), then make a border run, stay for another 60 days, get another extension of 30 days (probably). This would give you 180 days. If for some reason they only gave you 7 days extension because you do not have a ticket leaving Thailand, then you would still have 134 days. And if for some reason you cannot get a double entry tourist visa, then just get a single entry visa, and after the 60+30, take a trip to Vientiane Laos and get another tourist visa and return for another 60+30 days. March 18, 200818 yr Normally tickets are not as required locally - except Cambodia - and even there it can be worked around at some crossings. But it is always better to use real visa entry and keep visa exempt for emergency use.
