Does anyone know if freesias (sweet aroma) plant would grow in Thailand?

They grow fine in the U.S. but not sure if they would work here in Tropical Thailand.

I am pretty sure I saw bulbs for sale in Chatuchak Market. They are considered "tender" so I don't see why they shouldn't grow here.

Hi SBK,

I am stoked. I would love to grow some .Where is the market located? Do you think I might find bulbs in the Pattaya area?

Forgive my ignorance- but what does tender mean in flower talk?

And do you know the Thai name for the bulbs?

Thanks for the info!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

tender means they don't like a hard frost. I saw them at the weekend market (Chatuchak in Bangkok) --no idea about Pattaya, sorry! But chatuchak has a very large plant market on wed. so if you wanted to load your truck up, and aren't afraid of the traffic, that would be the time to!

Well, my staff think it should be called Hua หัว in Thai but the Thai to English dict online says: รากเหง้า râak-ngâo.

That would make sense-Sonoma Ca. never (only once in 12 years ) had frost. It had many cool nights & days in the winter.

Had a lot of flowers in spring & summer.

Thanks again to you!
