We are about to send in a visiting visa application for my Thai girlfriend to the UK. We've covered all sections as best as we can. However, her employer (she works part time as she is also a student) for one reason or another seems very reluctant to provide my girlfriend with any wages slips. Even though she works for a fairly large hotel apparently they don't normally give out wage slips to there employees. We have asked for several months of backdated slips for the purpose of the application. Also they are very reluctant to write a letter for the embassy stating my girlfriend is employed by them and is only intending to take a holiday to the UK (although they have no problem giving her the time off work).

Our concern is that we don't have sufficient evidence as a reason for her to return to Thailand after her 5 week stay in the UK. However, my girlfriend actually only works part time for the company as she is also a student at a Uni in Bangkok. She's isn't due to complete her degree until next year and the Uni have provided a letter stating that she is a student and that she has so far obtained x amount (about 110 i think) of credits. She won't obtain the full 145 until next year when she completes her degree. My question is will the embassy see this letter from her Uni as enough evidence for a reason to return? Or should we really persist for wage slips and the possibility of a written letter from work also? The reason I ask is that we've been asking for these things from her place of work for many weeks now and they just don't seem to want to help out. Also, we're under pressure timewise and if we don't submit the application soon we won't be able to get things moving and a flight paid for in time for when my girlfriend has a chance to come over.

I'm thinking I'm just going submit the application with the evidence we have so far and forgetting about her employer or would this be foolish? I really don't want the application to be turned down and apart from this I'm confident we've covered all other areas.

Any advice would be really appreicated as we're both getting a little nervous

If you are not going to get the evidence, then you can't submit it, you appear to be of the decision to submit the application anyway, so ensure that you cover all the bases that you can, put in the covering letter the basis of your application, including the Hotel work and reasons for non-corroborating evidence.

A Reason to Return is important, but may not fail on this, if other supporting evidence out-weighs this weak part of the application, are their other supporting docs, like land, house or even a large supportive family, this can all have positive feedback for the application.

Good Luck

Hi Moss,

Thanks for the reply. My gf doesnt' have land or a house over in Thailand although she does haven't a large supporive family - I must admist that wasn't something I thought to include. The only reason to return we have at the moment is her university education. Well, I'll give her employer to the end of the week and if still nothing I'll go ahead and submit things as they are perhaps including some info on her family too.

Thanks for the reply

Dave

A girl working for a friend's business was successful with a letter from him, as a company director, stating basically that she had worked there in such a position for however long, she was entitled to XYZ weeks leave which had been agreed and that her position remained open wupon her return in whatever period of time. They did phone him and he confirmed the information.

He did not provide salary slips neither were they requested. I suspect that the reason her boss does not want to provide slips is either to show continuity of employment or for some tax / financial issues. He may provide a letter which you can draft and have it copied onto header paper.

Best of luck.

You don't say where you live. If you live in Thailand and are just visiting the UK yourself the British Embassy could consider that a good enough reason for your G/F to return to Thailand. My G/F has had two tourist visa's for the UK in the last two years, she doesn't have a job, only has a few thousand baht in her own bank account and doesn't own land/property either but we live together in Thailand and the fact that I would be returning was a good enough reason for her to return and she was given her visa's without any problems.

I agree with sumrit. If you're gainfully employed in Thailand, I reckon that's going to help your cause.

My wife just got her first tourist visa to Oz (I'll be posting more after I pick the passport up on Monday).

She's a full time mum, while I work at a government university supporting her and my Thai-Australian daughter.

I got my employer to write out an employment service document stating the basics and added that to my wife's application.

Couldn't hurt.

Good luck with it. Be sure to tell us how you guys get on.
