Wp/visa Question

Featured Replies

Had a little issue with my workpermit and passport recently.

I work and have a non-immigrant B visa. My passport expired mid january. I got a new passport and went to immigration to get my new stamps put in. My permission to stay is until October 2008. What I didn;t realise is that my WP (which my school keeps possion of - bad idea!), also was only valid to the date of my passport expiring. My school let this little gem of information slip and my WP expired. I had my school get it sorted out and got my new WP today. It's valid for one year.

Hoiwever, as you can see, now my extension of stay is until October 2008, while my WP is valid till march 2009. Normally the dates coincide. I'm not sure why the Labour department gave me a one year WP, when they would have known that my extension of stay is only till October.

Is this going to be a problem? Should I clarify this with the Labour department?

Thanks for any advice.

My understanding is that your both your visa and W/P are tied if one lapses the other laspes, so provided you renew your extension in 2008 on the date stated you shouldnt have any problems....strange why they have done that but after all T.I.T
