It would appear that the number of murders of foreigners residents or tourists here in Thailand is on the increase.

It would be interesting to see if the stats support that.

If that is the case, then perhaps foreign journalists in all western/european countries need to carry these new

wires thru out their own national/local papers warning people to stay away from Thailand until the Thai autorities

get the message; it would appear they have not gotten the message thus far.

So the only way to get the message across, is to hit them where it makes the most significant impact; their

wallets.

There are indeed other places in this world worth spending their tourist dollars that are safer and more

enjoyable as Thailand.

There also appears to be no follow up on the resolution of prior shooting/murders in the either the Bangkok

Post or the The Nation which claims to be an independent newspaper. It would be good public relations for

both these newspapers to continue to follow up on all murders, shootings, stabbings, by thai nationals against

foreigners so the international community to view how they have been resolved.

It certainly is conceivable your point about following the money flow and certainly conceivable that this homicide

could have been set up by the wife. That certainly would not be the first time nor the last time this has been

carried out by a spouse; in all countries.

If in fact, the police know the identity of the one who committed the physical act of killing this

individual, then a warrant should be issued immediately and interogated by a "competent" authority.

Prejudices of any sort are pretty difficult to root out in all cultures. Perhaps there is some hope of doing this in a world that is becoming more globalized every day that goes by. It appears obvious to me that all the messages in all the religions of the world have certainly missed the mark. The increasing globalization has made this world smaller and smaller and economically more interdependent irrespective of languages, cultures, and religions.

In almost all western countries warrants for arrest and search warrants can be obtain in as little as 30 minutes to an hour.

LOL. You've been watching too many American cop shows. A prosecutor has to establish several facts before a request for a warrant can be made. Specific facts such as;

- Name and identifying features of the subject

- Nature of the crime and a summary of the relevant facts

- A summary of evidence and documentation to establish that there are reasonable grounds for a warrant.

- The reasons why the requesting prosecutor believes that an arrest is necessary.

It takes time to assemble the above. Make an error on obtaining a warrant and the case can get thrown out, so it is best to go slowly and get it right.

Speed of issue depends upon the jurisdiction and such things as finding a judge to agree. Good luck doing that in a big city on a weekend or a holiday. In the USA, unless otherwise specified, a search warrant must be executed in daylight hours. In many cases it can take months to obtain the arrest warrant. Without doubt in some US counties if the cops allege drugs or terrorism a judge will move fast. In other counties if it is an allegation of domestic violence the warrant can take weeks or months. In Canada, some provinces don't have prosecutors available on weekends so it is hard to get a warrant on saturday, especially in the summer.

In the case of the hapless one legged man, the police had to follow the procedures for obtaining a warrant. They're actually following the Thai legal protocol.

Even though the victim's own sexual appetite contributed greatly to his demise, you have to feel sorry for someone who will forever be known in Thai newspapers and Thai Visa as the one-legged Finn.

How about "amorous one-legged Finn"?

THE CULMINATING EPISODE AND FINAL REVELATION IN THE KILLING OF THE ONE-LEGGED FINN IN PATTAYA

The final disclosure in the murder case of Erikki Aal Tonen revealed today, April 3, 2008, that the killing was a pre-meditated, orchestrated plot by the two suspects to asset-strip the victim. While Ms Ann distracted him with sex, the entrance door was left open to allow her accomplice access to the premises, where they jointly collaborated in the assault and grievous wounding of Mr Erikki, who subsequently died from his wounds.

In the previous account of the unfolding saga of Mr. Aal Tonen's death, PDN reported how Pattaya Police took Ms. Nipaporn (Ann) Pootoh, the 6-month-pregnant woman who was arrested in connection with the March 25 murder of the one-legged Finn in Jomtien Grand Condotel, for a reconstruction of the attempted murder.

To recap: Pattaya Police commanded her to explain the circumstances and show them exactly what had happened on the night of March 25. The reconstruction took a total of 30 minutes, during which Ms. Ann explained more clearly that she had been seeing Erikki Aal Tonen for the last year on a regular basis, whenever his wife was not at home.

On the night the attempted murder had occurred, she maintained that Mr. Tonen had phoned and asked her to visit him. She told police that she had asked her new boyfriend to drive her to her assignation with Mr. Tonen. In the interim, she maintained, the boyfriend had waited for her outside the room.

Ms. Ann maintained that while she was in the bathroom, after having sex with the victim, she heard a commotion coming from the room outside and opened the bathroom door, only to see Mr. Pakpoom repeatedly hitting the victim and demanding that Mr. Tonen open the safe, but he refused. Ms. Ann further maintained that she had tried to stop her boyfriend, but Mr. Pakpoom wouldn't listen and continued stabbing the victim until he was almost dead, finally dragged her out of the apartment. Mr. Tonen, subsequently died from his wounds in Pattaya Memorial Hospital.

Today, April 3, at 11.00 am, Police Major General Bundit Koonajak, commander of the joint police teams from Chonburi and Pattaya, announced to the media that they have arrested Mr. Pakpoom Poh-iam,(26) the killer of Mr. Erikki Aal Tonen (65) , who also stole his Nokia mobile phone, two watches and Bt3000 cash, escaping with his accomplice, Ms. Ann, by motorbike.

The confession of Poh-iam to the police was somewhat different to the account given by his female accomplice, Ms Ann. Poh-iam revealed that they had jointly conceived of a carefully orchestrated plan to rob Mr. Erikki. Firstly, Ms Ann was to phone the victim and arrange a sexual encounter. Before she had sex, however, Ms Ann was to ensure the front door was left unlocked and she was to switch on the hall light as a signal for him to gain access to the room. Poh-iam said he then sneaked in the room, with a bomb attached to his waist.

While he was searching the room for assets, Mr. Erikki heard him making a noise and emerged from the bedroom to investigate. On seeing the intruder, Mr. Erikki grabbed two conveniently placed knives and moved to confront Poh-iam, who then assaulted the victim with a chair in an effort to force him to drop the knives.

While they were struggling, however, Ms. Ann came to Poh-iam' s aid and held the victim's arms to enable Poh-iam to stab him repeatedly, until he eventually dropped in a pool of his own blood.

The incapacitation of the victim being accomplished, the pair than ransacked the room, stealing the assets, mentioned previously and escaped by motorbike; later going their separate ways.

Poh-iam then recounted how he had gone home to see his wife, Mrs. Paveena Pattanasri; subsequently going to stay with a friend in Pantong, Chonburi, for two days. During the time he was away, he left the watches, mobile phone, simcard and the victim's long-sleeved shirt, which was covered in blood, at a hut . He then travelled to Srahboat, Lopburi, where his mother lives, stayed with her for a day, then asked for her money and left for Koh Samui, staying there three more days.

Finally, he went into hiding in Choomtabong, Nakornsawan, his wife's relative's place, where he was ultimately discovered and arrested by police.

Police Major General Bundit said the case was excessively brutal and revealed that the killer has a long criminal record history with many serious cases, involving drugs and robbery, which had occurred in his hometown of Lopburi.

The three police forces from Pattaya Chonburi and Lopburi will collaborate to bring Poh-iam and his female accomplice to justice.

As the reconstruction demonstrated today, a crowd of interested onlookers, both Thai and foreigners, had assembled at the incident location, eager to view the proceedings in this high profile case.

Male Suspect arrested in Finnish Murder Case.

We have been closely following the shocking murder case of a Finnish National which appears now to have come to a conclusion with the arrest of the boyfriend of the Thai Woman who was known to have gone to the Condo of the Finnish Man prior to the murder. It appears she had concocted a plan with her Thai Boyfriend, Khun Pakpoon aged 26, who is now in custody.

On Thursday Morning, Police Major General Bundit, the Commander of Chonburi Provincial Police attended the scene of the murder as local Police arranged a reconstruction of the events leading up to and including the murder.

The General began by confirming that the male suspect was arrested at his home in Lopburi Province and he also confirmed that the suspect had been arrested previously on drug related charges and had spent time in prison. We managed to speak with the suspect who confessed to the murder and confirmed it was a plan organized with his Girlfriend who would see the Finnish victim on a regular basis.

The pair simply wanted to steal valuables from the victim but the Finnish Man put up a considerable amount of resistance when confronted by the two, which caused Khun Pakpoon to panic and he proceeded to stab the victim multiple times which led to his demise. Khun Pakpoon is now on remand with his girlfriend who had been arrested last month and the pair will face charges of murder in court soon.
