Isn't that about the same time that the Olympic torch is supposed to go through Bangkok? Hope they have lots of backup flames. :o

I am going to spend the Songkhran week around the Sukumvit area. Does anyone know how crazy it gets there ? Can you manage to get around without getting soaked whenever you step outside ? :D

It is quite easy to not get wet if you know where to avoid. Places that farangs drink are worse like where Soi Nana meets Sukumvit is a big no-no. I have often stayed in Bangkok for Song Kran and not got wet the whole time.

Agreed, Songkran is best in the Provinces, and that doesn't include Pattaya which delays Songkran coz all the staff head home for the celebration.

One of my most memorable Songkrans was in 1992. I had just bought a new bike (Honda Bros). My cousin flew in from home. We headed out to Aranyapratet. It took us 7 hours to get there! Every 2 km we were stopped by groups of kids, teens, drunks, oldies and all, partying roadside. We got fed, showered, powdered and supplemented. It was a real effort to remain sobber even thought we did not buy a single drop of alcohol nor had alcohol stashed with us.... After a day or 2 in Aran we headed north for Buri Ram, Korat, Muak Lek, Saraburi and back to the big Mango...... 5 days of unreal country hospitality. We were not in a hurry, we enjoyed every oportunity to communicate and celebrate with the locals. Me and my cousin still talk about this road trip.. :o

Breaking out The Super Soakers and heading down to Silom road. I hang out next to a 7-11 with my wife were we can go in and buy liters of frosty cold water to squirt unsuspecting tourists as they trod through the crowds of parting Thais. San00k! San00k! :o

Last year I had my first songkran in the Khao San Road. Very packed, very wet, very powdered and very good fun. Everyone was gentle, having fun and there was no problems.

This week I open my new business (a drug and alcohol re-hab) near Kanchaniburi so will try out Songkran there. I will take any clients we have too. Give them a taste of madness drug free style!!!!

Getting wet I would think :o

Scotty

despite my many times in Thailand and having a Thai wife i have never been over there for Songkran .......... until now.

We are flying over there on 6th April and i cant wait !!!!!

One thing confusing me though, she says we will celebrate with her family in the village from 13th to 17th then travel to Pattaya and celebrate there. Do the celebrations happen later in Pattaya because everyone goes home for the holiday or something ??

I can remember reading the same topic on the same forum 1 year ago - Now I am British but this shit does remind me about my fellow countrymen complaining about the weather.........................................and I am sure it will be about the rain when the time comes!
