There are no rights or privileges, regardless of the duration of membership or number of posts. Sometimes it is easy to forget that we are all guests on a privately owned website. I can understand your opinion and also the mods opinion. being a moderator is a thankless job - real tough. But I had been called a troll on my initial post way back when even though I was just seeking advice. that is why I only lurked here for a long time before posting again. The closing of bg lapse into craziness was a little weird and highhanded. To me the bg threads were fairly amusing, if not for bg content, but the way some persons really felt irritated by information on "fun, pub, expat life". fatter than harry Posted October 1, 2004 Share Posted October 1, 2004 I remember a few Ajarns coming over here long before the crash and taking the piss out of the TV crowd for being 'highbrow', a fair point after reading their site. Then the crash came and they all came over, a room was created for them and they naturally crept around the rest of the site. Regarding the VIP room I can only imagine that us shell shocked TV members we're offered an area to escape the stupid. Don't get me wrong, we had our BG thread problems before the Ajarns (BA) but they managed to crank it to new levels after they got settled in (AA) Now I don't know, but I'm guesing thats why the VIP room was formed. If this makes some of you new fellas want to make a new forum thats aces with me, everything happens for a reason - good luck. As has been said by the admins on a number of occasions, the VIP room is an experiment. Closing of threads has nothing to do with the VIP room. I agree with a previous poster about having the VIP room not actually on the main Thai Visa page, being only viewable to those invited members, so as not to cause any resentment with the others members not invited..... So what exactly is the criteria for becoming a member? That is a VERY good question....... One that I'd like to hopefully find out also.....Well, at least before THIS Thread is closed again... Doesn't matter, the name could better have been another one, but it is even given to busses in Thailand and aircon rooms in filthy restaurants. For non-thai a vip-group sounds ridiculeous of course but for thais it is a normal expression. It is though the easiest one, an unlucky choice, . I think that people who don't want to be confronted with (admit it dear fellow forum members) rudeness and stupidity, also can look for forums in their own languages. If you participate in Swedish, German, Dutch, Danish or whatever forums you notice a completely different tone. As a viewer of local affairs for some time, i can say that also mods have learned from mistakes in the past. It sometimes took some persuasion, but hey that's what makes life interesting. Sometimes they get back to their old tricks. Sometimes we do get back on it also. I still don't like some recent stories like the ban of (white minus red minus green = xxx).
