Hi all,

I am 48, from Ireland.

Just joined and this is first post. Sincere apologies if these are dumb questions or if you have answered them 100s of times already.

I entered Thailand on 1st January and have been volunteering at Childrens home. I overstayed my first 30 days exemption period by nine days and paid fees/penalties. I spend a few days in Cambodia and reentered Thailand. I did a one day visa run when that 30 days was up and I am now 'good' until 9th April.

I was reading old information and thought I could continue to do Visa Runs. Have just found out this is not true. I am planning to help run a workshop from 1-10 May and then return home to Ireland.

I may have two options.

Can I cross the border and now get a 30 or 60 day tourist visa in Laos, for example, and re-enter Thailand ?

Because I spent a few days outside Thailand, I have not yet actually spent 90 days in Thailand, though it is today 90 days since I entered. Can I hightail it across the border in the next day or so and get one last 30 day exemption ?

Many thanks for your help.

Micheal

You are only allowed 90 days in a six month period using visa exempt entry so you can not obtain another 30 day entry. Nor should you be doing any kind of work on such an entry. Nor should you be overstaying on any entry (it could land you in jail - as could working without a work permit).

To enter Thailand again you need to obtain a visa for entry from a Consulate outside Thailand, which will take several days. Currently the best place to obtain visas seems to be Vientiane.

Your visa exemptions have run out Micheal. You need to go out and apply for a 'real' 60 day tourist visa. Your free runs are out of the question for another 90 days. Working as a volunteer is strictly illegal on a visa extension or a tourist visa basis. It is a lock up and deport sort of thing here.
