My Experience Of Paying Agents To Organise Amphur Marriage Registration Bangkok.

I chose the agents to use from an ad in Bangkok Post, it is a medium size display ad in the classified section quite often but not every day, it can be recognised by the bullet point: Marriage Registration 6,000thb (same day service).Italics are mine. UK citizens may be aware that the UK Embassy is 'incapable'..... of producing an affirmation to marry in one day unlike the U.S. and Australian Embassies, this incompetence is somehow magically overcome andworth 6000thb alone.

The company has two addresses in the ad the one that you have to go to start is in a high rise floor 7 bang opposite the U.S. Embassy in Wireless Road that you can walk to from Ploenchit BTS, although the pavement is in a shameful condition.

I had phoned the day before to arrange things and the lady said arrive at 9.00am we arrived more like 8.00am and were offered coffee etc while we waited about, 8.45 we started filling in some forms including those that would be transformed into the application at the U.K. Embassy for the affirmation of freedom to marry document which included my Decree absolute (Original only), for which you have to pay the fee of about 3250thb directly to the Embassy i.e. not included in the 6000thb advertised.

After filling in the forms had an interview with a helpful gentlemen to confirm all the relevant points and he also mentioned some other services the company offered, so all this took about an hour and next we were assigned a charming lady who was to be our mentor and be with us for the rest of the process, from this point on with the exception of the fee at the UK Embassy, we had to spend no more money.

Next we jumped in a cab to the UK Embassy only just up the road, the lady came in with us and showed me where to go, I had about 4 people in front of me and about half an hour later had done the business (Affirmation to be collected next day by company by merit of authorization I had signed) and left the Embassy in a cab and went directly to the Amphur office which was about a twenty-five minute cab ride away, the office itself was big, new and modern and had many stations and the usual ticket queuing system, waited about 25 mins before it was our turn, firstly went to a desk for a short period and did some paper work with a young lady, then went before what I take to be the equivalent of our Registrar and said a few words, he had some water in a jug that he said came from the amulet the King was holding in a picture that hung on the wall, he wiped this water across our brows in a kind of act of blessing which added somewhat to the occasion in the local Amphur Office! We were given a pair of pretty marriage certificates which we were told would be mailed to us via EMS with the affirmation to marry documents the next day as indeed they were, awaiting us at home when we returned a few days later.

We the went across the road and bought our lady lunch from a vendor and shared a cab with her back to our respective BTS stations she paying for her ride!

Anyway that was that job done more or less in the morning, no grief at all no hanging about overnight courtesy of the UK Embassy, a total of 9250 thb and everything handled.

I thoroughly recommend the experience and regard it as excellent value, without question no farang plodding away filling in the forms as I sometimes see recommended by people on this and other forums could have achieved this alone. :o

You forgot to factor in the US$999,999,999,999.... for the missus. :o

Only joking. Well done and good luck in the future. It does sound like the process was much eased. Save yourself stress; the whole point of being here. (See point 1 :D )

How did you get the marriage certificate when the Affirmation letter would not be ready until the next day?

No marriage can be legally registered without that paperwork, registered by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs per Public Service Manual; so it appear they will not be legally married until the next day, after that paperwork has been processed and thus the reason the documents are mailed to them (normally you receive on registration).

A Letter of Certification, issued by an Embassy or Consulate or a Government Organization from their country, regarding the marital status of the person. The Letter must be translated, then certified by the relevant Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

I would think that decision to marry is planned well in advance, months or years, even if the fiance is pregnant it's not necesary to marry her on that very same day she heard the news.

first of all you need a free to marry document from your home country, consulate only confirms it for the local authorities (depending on the consulate might take several days - the document might have to be translated into english). The rest can be done in a day.

I would rather save 6k for the wedding ceremony

Umm we are talking about 6000 BAHT not dollars. So small a sum is insignificant when you conisder the ease.

What you need is a paper from your Embassy. In some cases that may require outside paperwork but in the case of a the US it is a fill in form that you do there and have notarized.
