so its 20:00 and we are closing the clinic and some guy calls; his dog doesnt want to eat, her stomach is huge, she's not her usual golden retriever self.... so we, thinking torsion or some other awful thing, tell him we will wait and check her out.

so he comes in, she's all lazy and sweet; we do two sets of blood work (we have a new machine to try out so this is a good chance too) and all the parameters are blinking meaning they are way out of the norm for a dog... so we do urine... slightly diabetic... hmmm... her vulva is swollen and with some discharge, so maybe a womb infection (can be fatal if not caught in time)

the guy (owner) goes out side to call wife and smoke a cigarette since we have prepared him for doing exploratory surgery tomorrow,

we do a aspiration of some fluids from her abdomen; there is fluids.... hmmm...

then we do an xray (we dont have an ultra sound machine yet)....

while i wait with the owner for results, he's sweating, and calling the wife and sms'ng the kids that the dog is in a bad way, he tells me that she had had a visit by a male 'friend' a few months ago and nothing happened.... when? two months ago (60+days ago) ***** a bitch whelps at 59-63 days***

symtoms: big belly, no appetite, lower then usual temperature, enlarged vulva ....

xray is ready: 7 little skeletons show up in a row; looks like she's gonna be a momma tomorrow....

poor thing, all that poking and prodding she took so good naturedly...

... visit from a boyfriend indeed...

alls well that ends well except for my p/o'd husband since iw as so late coming home (23:00)...

cute hu...

have a good nite,

She gave birth to 8 beautiful pups a week earlier than thought. Mom and pups went home in good shape with a happy owner. :o
