How Much Do People Pay For Their Landline Per Month?

Featured Replies

My husband and I are planning to move to Bangkok this year, we are wondering whether we need to have a landline in the house or get 2 mobile phones instead.

1. Is it cheaper to call overseas from a mobile phone or landline?

2. How much does a landline cost per month?

3. In England, I used to use my o2 mobile phone to call overseas, it was included in the free mins therefore i don't have to pay extra for it. How about in Bangkok? any number i can use to call international calls at a lower price?

thanks !!!

If you want ADSL internet, in most cases you'll need a phone line anyway, so that might be your answer. A line costs 100THB +7% tax per month.

Regards

PS International routing includes 001 {in theory the best} 007 {I think there's a 008 service as well} & 009 which are cheaper but quality may be lower.

There are different mobile phone service providers and within each company there are different call plans with different call charges, I find calls to Europe and The Americas expensive in comparision to the cost of a call in the other direction. Send a SMS and get them to call you. Investigate Skype and other online services.

Using 009 on the landline costs Bht7/minute as opposed to Bht14/minute for 001.Ihave never experienced any quality problems with 009.

You should probably wait until you arrive, get settled and determine your calling patterns to make a decision re: a fixed line. International tariffs are fixed so options include calling cards and VoIP.

I can't see a need for a fixed line unless you require ADSL, and you may not be able to get a fixed line (not available, long wait to install, may require a work-permit).

You can check the TOT and CAT websites for current 001/005/007/008/009 tariffs by called country.

Calling cards are available resulting in prices as low as 1 baht/min.

1. Is it cheaper to call overseas from a mobile phone or landline? Same, no difference.

2. How much does a landline cost per month? I pay 107 baht/month including VAT with TOT

3. In England, I used to use my o2 mobile phone to call overseas, it was included in the free mins therefore i don't have to pay extra for it. How about in Bangkok? any number i can use to call international calls at a lower price? Calling cards.

Once you are set up with LAN line and internet, use Skype to make overseas calls, dirt cheap, free if person at other end has Skype instaled on their pc as well.
