Changing Id Card Into Married Name - Documents

Featured Replies

Hello,

My wife is in Thailand at the moment and we want to use this opportunity for her to change her ID card into her married name so that we can then do the same with her passport when she returns to the UK. We married in the UK.

I need to post her the documents that she will need to do this but I cannot find what I believe to be a comprehensive or up to date list of what she will need.

Can anybody help at all, please?

Just wondering , are you doing this so you are then able to change passport to married name ? Only there have been quite a few discussions about this here and whether its better to keep ID card in Thai name. A lot of Thais do so and then have the passport endorsed at the Thai embassy so it carries both names.

Now I could be wrong but I believe you might have a problem as I seem to recall it requires documentation from Thai Embassy regarding the marriage certificate and that of course will be something your wife would have to do which is a problem if shes in LOS.

No doubt there will be someone along with more recent knowledge than mine. Good luck

Thanks for the advice roamer. My wife's passport was issued in Sep 2005 and is therefore Biometric. She can't have it endorsed so will need to change it and she'll have to get her ID card changed first. Once back in the UK she'll then be able to apply for ILR in her married name and everthing will match up nicely.

Can anybody help me to find out what documentation she will need?

I married my wife in the UK back in 2000 and she has never bothered to change her ID card to her married name even when she replaced it last year. Her passport ran out and when she renews it, it will be in her own name.

She cannot see the need to change it.

We have just finalised this job last week...

We married in Belgium and we had to deliver an international marriage certificate issued by the city. this document had to be translated to thai, legalised by Belgian Ministery of Foreign Affairs and Thai Embassy in Belgium. The lat step was to let it stamped by the Ministery of Foreign Affairs in Bangkok and to present it to the city (in Thailand) where my wife is registered.

One important point: my wife did not change her family name to mine.

Good luck

As your wife did not change her name, I wonder why you bothered??
