I've got a friend who is interested in studying cosmetolgy (specifically, hair styling) in Thailand. Does anyone know of any schools or training institutions that would be able to assist her in getting a work permit to do that? (I realize that she won't be able to practice this profession in Thailand - but she would like to be trained here). I've seen other posts in this forum about getting a visa for massage or scuba diving school, but haven't been able to track down anything specific to cosmetology.

Thanks for any help or advice.

Nah - I don't believe "cosmetology" is a real word . . . . . .

Get a workpermit? dunno

Some Thai consulates abroad might issue a non-imm-ed visa with a letter from a school stating the person's name, the duration of the school etc.

Cosmetology sounds like a branch of Scientology. (To all Tom Cruise's lawyers, I am just joking. You and your client do understand humor, don't you? Anyway, please don't sue me.)

Jokes aside...

Here's the Yellow Pages entry for vocational institutes. Some of them are "beauty schools", so it could be what your friend is looking for.

Does your friend speak Thai? I seriously doubt any of these teach in English.

Thanks for the input - that is helpful. One more question...does anyone know if such a school or vocational institute absolutely must be registered with the Ministry of Education? Or is a letter on official letterhead enough?

Very doubtful I'm afraid. Another route perhaps.

Naka.
