HOOD Robin
About 2 - 3 months ago i already posted a question like this, but as it still seems a difficult subject i want to post it again as i become 50 years in 20 days.... That time i visited a well respected Thai lawyer with the question if it is possible to get a Workpermit after i would apply for a retirement visa. His answer was: " in the past it was no problem but these things are gonna change very soon..." ; with other words: Retirement visa + Workpermit will be impossible in the future... The next day, a Thai friend of my wife who is working as a secretary in a real estate office, contacted somebody at immigration with whom they often negotiate about such (and other) things, and asked that immigration officer if this was true or not ? Answer of the Immigr officer:" NEVER heard about thise rule..." with other words: you still can get a Workpermit after you applied for a Retirement visa !? Now i would like to ask the specialists here at the Thaivisa.com forum (Sunbelt, Lopburi....) what or who we actually can believe, that lawyer or the immigration officer ? Any information is welcome ! Thanks in advance. Robin
lopburi3
Immigration has nothing to do with work permits so would not be expected to know the rules. It is up to the labor office. In most cases they will not issue if you are on a retirement extension of stay; and that has been true for a long time (but with exceptions). Recently the frequency of exceptions seems to have been reduced so in most cases people are not getting work permits issued. We still have the occasional poster who seems to be getting but they seem to have been getting for awhile rather than new applicants now.

poolsiriron
Surely retirement and permission to work are contradictions in terms. Poolsiri_Ron
