How do I sync my 2 laptops? I really need to sync my email and my documents. I have downloaded microsoft Activesync but don't know how to use it. Any replies would be appreciated.

As far as I know Activesync is for use between a computer and a PDA or mobile phone (not a laptop).

* Syncing documents with Microsoft Groove would solve your file problems (not free, sorry but I love this program).

* Email - you could just set your email program to leave copies of messages on the server (so the other machine can download them), or pay for an Exchange account.

Syncing files:

Have the files on one computer, let's call this one the "server". The computer you work with we call the "client".

1) Make the directory with the files on the server a shared directory.

2) Map the server directory on the client directory, as default windows will call it drive z:

3) You may (but don't have to) make this directory "My documents". I do this in my office and the staff doesn't even notice that the are not stored on the computer they are working on.

4) The most important step: click "Make folders available offline". Now a copy of the file will be stored on the client's computer.

You can work offline and next time you log on, the file with the newer date will overwrite the one with the older date. So you can also work on the server directly. In case you work offline on server and client, the system will ask you which copy of the file you want to keep with the option to keep both versions (by renaming one of them).

Downside: If a file goes corrupt but has a newer file date, it will overwrite the healthy file! Be very aware of this problem. To prevent it happening, go immediately offline (by unplugging the network cable for instance) once you see a file going hayway and rename the healthy file on the other computer.

Syncing Outlook:

I tried OS Sync with little success. Best is having the e-mails on the laptop only and carry them with you. Outlook is very reluctant to any syncing attempts...
