Hi Foks.

I am 60 year old eye surgeon from India. I intend to visit Thailand (my first visit was about 15 years ago) sometime in nov 2008 either alone or with some helping hand. I intend to rent a serviced apartment in Bangkok for about a month. I have few questions.

Is it safe to rent an apartment or I would be better served in hotel ?

How do you get refund for your security before you leave thailand ?

What are the precautions that you need to take when you rent an apartment, also during your tenancy.

Any other info/precaution that you might like to add to this thread. Link to any previous discussion on the subject or any related link would be appreciated.

thanks and kind regards.

Of course there are too many variables involved to give you anything more than a succinct answer to your question.

Your budget, method of payment and also your Nationality can play a part.

Hello DrK.

Thais hate refunding money so, I would contact a small hotel such as

http://www.queenlotusguesthouse.com/

or http://www.baansukhumvit.com/

Try to negotiate via email, both are fairly new hotels near soi 20 & 22, and you won't need to worry about bonds or deposits for 4-6 weeks.

At a rough guess, you might get one for 25-30Kb a month.

Both hotels are run by expats.

I know nothing about serviced apartments.

Budget around 20-22K (inclusive of taxes, utilites. All inclusive).. Can go up a notch for some real value.

Method of payment could be cash down or by credit card .

Nationality is Indian.

But stay stands fixed at 1 month. and must get back the refund.
