Englishman sets his house on fire following argument with girlfriend.

In the early hours of Friday Morning, Police Lieutenant Colonel Chaiyporn from Banglamung Police Station made his way to house number 81/3 at the Satisook Village following reports of a major fire at the location. Police were met by Mr. Daniel Thomas aged 32 from England who was clearly intoxicated. He is the owner of the house and explained that earlier in the night he had engaged in a verbal altercation with his Thai Girlfriend. Tempers erupted and Mr. Thomas admitted to setting his house on fire. Over 1 Million Baht’s worth of damage was caused and luckily no one was injured in the blaze. The investigation into the fire will continue over the next few days as Police give time for Mr. Thomas to recover from the effects of the alcohol.

Drunken 'Berk'.

Supposing contiguous properties had caught fire? Innocent people could have been burnt alive!

I hope that Pattaya Police charge him with arson, and that the Banglamung Fire Station back-charge him for services rendered.

Plus: Everyone take a long look at Mr. Daniel Thomas' face below.

I hope he is blacklisted forever and deported from Thailand.

All because his Thai girlfriend got sick of his ugly fat face and beer belly.

Wow!! Tried, Judged and the verdict is in already.

There is a possibility that there might be more to this story than what has been stated, so far, by Pattaya City News. They have been known to get it wrong.

As far as I know, No Foreigner can own a house here yet. Maybe the house was paid for by him but in her name and they were arguing about that, or, there is , of course, your version, 'All because his Thai girlfriend got sick of his ugly fat face and beer belly.' We don't know, and, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so, your sugar could very well be someone elses poision!

Come on Josdydive...we can be almost sure of the likely story line here (assuming that the most basic aspects of the story are true...namely that it was a purposely set fire). Silly over-sexed alcoholic farang shacks-up with BG. After the first month or so of conubile bliss (at least on one party's part) and financial rewards (on the other's) they realize that they have absolutely nothing in common...don't even speak the same language. They both get tired of each other and are irritable all the time. Finally have the big blow-up over some matter and one or both go berserk.

Just surprised it has taken so long for this particular type of "flare-up" to occur. If memory serves, this is the first time I've heard of it in Patters :o

I even agree with most of what you have said, but, I don't agree with people who don't know the facts, or only have a tidbit of information and condemn immediately.

I have blow-ups with my other half all the time and 3 - 4 years down the line (can't remember), neither of us has set fire to the house. He just sleeps with the dogs and I go to bed! I just think there is more to the story than what has been stated so far.

I seem to remember a story a few months ago, where the falang bulldozed the house. Everybody in that thread was congratulating him, not sure why fire is so bad in comparison.

I think, as has been pointed out, that some (me included) take issue with his choice of destructive medium...namely fire. Especially, as is clear from the photos, that his "home sweet home" was a townhouse. This being the case, it would have been very easy for his Nero style epic to have spread to these adjoining homes and endangering both life, limb, and property.

Other than that, I think the story is funny as h*ll. I am sure these two lovebirds deserved each other. :o

Foreigners can own houses - they can't own land.

Absolutely right, of course and I'm sure some are waiting now with baited breath for the Land Owner to turn up to tell him to remove whats left of his house from his property.

Gives a whole new meaning to a "Flaming Row"

Sad Story

or Red House, Burning Down The House.....

If there was a violent argument that started the fight, maybe they were slamming doors in all the rooms and the DOORS sang out, 'Come On Baby Light My Fire.....'

Jeez, I hope this doesnt spark another futile debate on foreign house ownership again :o ....thats been done to death and any regular reader will be quiet familiar with the ownership laws.

Perhaps this is true back in your homeland, but in Pattaya perceived beauty doesn't have much to do with looks.

Hypothetically, what if a guy had been living with a BG for awhile and bought her a house in a moment of temporary insanity. They have a fight (one of many perhaps) and finally the girl tells him to get lost while gloating that the house is hers ...burning the house down doesn't sound so wild now does it? Either way he's lost it.

Yes but arson is a criminal offense in Thailand too. So burning down someone else's house will likely get you a free stay at the Rayong Hilton.
