iko Posted April 20, 2008 Posted April 20, 2008 Hi all, I'm IKO and live in thailand since march 2006. I'm Italian. I work as a webmarketer (for italian and 'farang' companies-websites), but I'd like to teach Italian somewhere here in phuket island (I live in Patong). I speak english quite fluently and I speak thai as well (can write and read and know almost 2000 words). Any suggestion to start my "second job"? Tks in advance ciao IKO
londonthai Posted April 20, 2008 Posted April 20, 2008 get in touch with an italian cultural institut in bangkok, they might point you to some schools teaching italian in phuket. You can approach some schools offering them your teaching - it might be only a few hours per week. Get in touch with hotels working with italian package tours, they might need to train their staff some basic language as well as occasional translation, when some guests are in troubles (robbed, lost passport etc)

Maybe I can ask some local schools if they need some italian teacher, but it seems that italian language is not so needed. If somebody stays in Phuket island and has some clue, please feel free to contact me
misterme Posted April 21, 2008 Posted April 21, 2008 Khon Kaen province has language teaching in public schools. I know for sure they have Chinese, Japanese, Spanish, German, English, and French. They likely have Italian teaching too. You'll need a university degree (any field), but that would be the likeliest place for employment.
pluto_manibo Posted April 21, 2008 Posted April 21, 2008 Maybe Italthai company needs to educate their staff.....
mrtoad Posted April 22, 2008 Posted April 22, 2008 (edited) Have alook around for some translation work. I know of a couple of people who translate English into French and Italian, or vice versa. Not sure what opps are available in Patong, but there are certainly more opps in BKK. There is no reason why you couldn't do this, as it can often be done by e-mail. Edited April 22, 2008 by mrtoad
wilko Posted April 28, 2008 Posted April 28, 2008 I would have thought there is absolutely nowhere on the planet where teaching Italian is necessary, it's my guess that more people speak Thai than Italian.
adjan jb Posted April 29, 2008 Posted April 29, 2008 (edited) I would have thought there is absolutely nowhere on the planet where teaching Italian is necessary, it's my guess that more people speak Thai than Italian. Nowhere on the planet? Total speakers: as maternal language between 60 and 70 million; as cultural language around 110-120 million Ranking: 19 (Thai language: Total speakers: 60-65 million, ranking: 39) His heart cracked, and he fell in love. He wondered if she would marry him.'Tu sei pazzo,' she told him with a pleasant laugh.'Why am I crazy?' he asked.'Perch_ non posso sposare.''Why can't you get married?''Because I am not a virgin,' she answered.'What has that got to do with it?''Who will marry me? No one wants a girl who is not a virgin.''I will. I'll marry you.''Ma non posso sposarti.''Why can't you marry me?''Perch_ sei pazzo.''Why am I crazy?'Perch_ vuoi sposarmi.'Yossarian wrinkled his forehead with quizzical amusement. 'You won't marry mebecause I'm crazy, and you say I'm crazy because I want to marry you? Is thatright?''Si.''Tu sei pazz'!' he told her loudly.'Perch_?' she shouted back at him indignantly, her unavoidable round breastsrising and falling in a saucy huff beneath the pink chemise as she sat up in bedindignantly. 'Why am I crazy?''Because you won't marry me.''Stupido!' she shouted back at him, and smacked him loudly and flamboyantly onthe chest with the back of her hand. 'Non posso sposarti! Non capisci? Non possosposarti.''Oh, sure, I understand. And why can't you marry me?''Perch_ sei pazzo!''And why am I crazy?''Perch_ vuoi sposarmi.''Because I want to marry you. Carina, ti amo,' he explained, and he drew hergently back down to the pillow. 'Ti amo molto.''Tu sei pazzo,' she murmured in reply, flattered.'Perch_?''Because you say you love me. How can you love a girl who is not a virgin?''Because I can't marry you.'She bolted right up again in a threatening rage. 'Why can't you marry me?' shedemanded, ready to clout him again if he gave an uncomplimentary reply. 'Justbecause I am not a virgin?''No, no, darling. Because you're crazy.' J.
