So my neighbor has this dog that loves to come over in front of my gate and piss on it and fight with my dogs who are behind the gate.  This usually happens late at night after my neighbor comes home late from closing his restaurant/bar.  Many times I have asked him to train his dog and keep it in the yard.  For the last 3 weeks he's been lying to me saying he was going to get him neutered " in a few days".  That hasn't happened and every night I hear his dog come over to my yard and then there ensues a fight between the gate ( around 1:30 a.m. last night which woke me from a sound sleep) which makes my dogs incur some injuries on the face due to trying to get under the gate etc. Last night I go running down and chase the dog off and my dog gets out of the yard and goes to get this dog that causes the problems.  This dog runs back to his yard ( gate wide open of course), hides under a car so my dog can't get at it, while the owner just kind of looks at me.  I again ask him to keep his dog in his yard.  Then his friend comes up to me and asks why do the dogs fight.  I tell him becuase my neighbor can't control his dog and his dog comes and pisses on my gate and starts a fight.

The only control I've seen this clown use with his dog is a big piece of wood.

So what is your advice on remedying this situation?  I could get the dog with pepper spray/mace combination that also marks the dog with a color ( used for self defense purposes for ladies), or if I could find some big deterrent outside of my gate, then that too would work. Or as an alternative, is there anything I could put out that would not harm the dog, but make it extremely sick for a few days?

I'm just blowing hot air in asking this guy to train his dog. Really I would love to just let the dogs two settle it, but my dog out weighs this one by at least 30 kilos.

This is really getting frustrating and happens nightly.

Don't hurt the dog, it's not it's fault, as you say, it's the idiot owner. I had a similar problem a year or so ago and in the end went to the police, i explained that i'd asked the owner several times and that he'd not listened to a single word i'd said and so they said they'd go talk to him. They didn't think it was stupid of me to bother them as they said that it was exactly things like this that get out of hand and end up being a bigger problem. Anyway it worked, he kept them in his own yard from then on, until the night before he moved away when he let them both out again to wind me up i guess, some folk always want to have the last word. If you hurt his dog he might want to have the last word by hurting yours - be careful ! Good luck.

As I see the situation you are at war with the guy via your dogs.

You have two choices as I see it, follow through with the dogs and let (encourage) your dog to do damage to his on a scale that makes his dog unable or unwilling to return. This could be supported with the use of a stlingshot and some suitable sized stones etc. Although this path is likely to lead to follow up action from the 'A#@#$E' himself. This path could easily lead to poisoning of dogs and inter-personal violence...

The higher approach would be via the village head/local police. Get video of the dogs attacking your dogs on your land. Document injuries and pursue vet medical costs from him. A pain in the ass to do and will take your time making police reports about agressive dogs - but getting the police involved will mean they (police) get fed up with seeing you lodge complaints and in turn get him to control his dogs. Is anyone else affected by his dogs?

Hey steele,

Besides maybe using the mace/pepper spray on the owner, you could always do what we do - keep your dogs indoors in the evenings.

We've always brought our dogs indoors when we go to bed - Zoe in the laundry and Kostya at the bottom of the stairs leading up to our bedrooms. The main reason we do this is because should someone decide that they want to bait our dogs, their only opportunity would be during the day and we'd see soon after evidence of their being poisoned. By bringing in the dogs when we're ready to go to bed, we know that they are safe from baiting (or other methods that burglars may use to prevent our dogs from alerting us) and if someone does come onto our property while we are in bed - our dogs will make a hel_l of a noise to alert us of intruders without having their lives threatened.

Maybe this is something to consider - especially since your neighbour has no intention of controlling his mongrel. :o

Haha, nice one Di :D

Thanks all so far.  I've never kept a dog indoors and the Mrs. and I don't want to start now either.

By the time I wake up and go downstairs, it's usually all over, not to mention the fact that the infringing dog is on the public road side of my gate. If it ever got on my land it would be a different story.  There is about a 5 cm opening from which this dog tries to get at my dogs as he's smaller and can get his face through, where as mine can't.

>>s anyone else affected by his dogs?

Yes the dog chases bikes, motorbikes, and if I'm so lucky my car. My daughter is now afraid to go out because of this POS.

>>Go to the police.

I live in an area of Phuket that is undermanned, so this would rank below the bottom of priority.

Anyway for now I'll take the high road and do nothing except to keep reminding said owner that it really is a good idea if he gets his dog trained and kept in the yard for the benefit of the dog.

Wonder if anything like this actually works?  http://www.liquidfence.com/dog-cat-repellents.html

Have you thought of making a very small space so the dog can get in your yard.the dogs will do the rest unless one chokes on the small dog lol.I have a similar problem in pattayaas my neighbour has got 6 little muts who bark for ages every day when all of them are let out to shit and piss anywhere except their area. The guy is english and a decent man so i am reluctant to complain because if i get any thing bad from him i would be deported for my actions,as i dont think he will talk logic about his dogs, because his wife is a bit ting tong.

Also my gf has taken on cats(now 4) which are very clean and dont go far but maybe he doesnt like cats, not sure, but i am open to critisism if i have a go about his dogs.

Any way maybe i will get a huge beast of a dog, look after it well, take him for walks but not give him too much food.let him be nidnoi hungry for when the 6 dogs come to my gate and piss and shit, then the gate wil slip open and munch time.maybe they will not let them out unsupervised when one or two get savaged or even better, eaten.

I too live in Phuket and i'm telling you, the police were more than happy to come and sort out my problem, as i said before they are well aware of how these problems can escalate. I didn't have video, i didn't have proof, but had i been told i needed it and it was bothering me so much i would have not found it too much trouble to do so. Now that they are demanding dogs be microchiped and people be held responsible for their dogs i'm sure they'll go and point out that this guy MUST be responsible for his dog and keep it under control. If he says it's not his dog then you have every right to remove it to the dog pound in Thalang. As far as i'm concerned that's what the police are here for, to keep the peace and sort out problems. Is the idiot owner Thai or a foreigner?

the owner of the problem dog is a foreigner :o

The owner of my problem dogs was a foreigner too, in a way i think it makes it easier to deal with.Go to the police and get it sorted once and for all, why should you have to keep your dogs inside etc, you're dogs are not the problem, you're not breaking any law! This idiot needs to learn how to get along with neighbors!! :D

Yeah you're right, but going to the police only makes for bad feelings between neighbors.  He's a renter and will probably be gone in 6 months, but that's still 6 months longer of ill will then need be.

This looks like a nice easy solution.  An untrasonic dog repellent that covers a 180 degree radius outside of my yard.  Safe, humane, won't cause problems etc. for 1500 baht plus shipping  http://www.amazon.co.uk/Mega-Sonic-Repeller-Latest-Motion-activated/dp/B0012KLCL8

Why do you people have to have 4 cats, or 6 dogs? Is one not enough? Or are you breeding them for food?

Personally I think they should be banned unless for livestock, and if one of them comes near me I have no hesitation in giving it a very hard kick on the nose.

If you don't own flea bitten mongrels, then you will not get woken up by other flea bitten mongrels trying to shag/ fight them. Simple really.

I dislike bananas chariot but doesnt mean i have to squash you and sling you in the stinking bin..

My what an aggressive post for the Pets forum sweetchariot. May I suggest that if you dislike animals then the Pets forum is perhaps not the best location for you to come and post?

You clearly have never experienced the unconditional love that pets (especially dogs and cats) give their owners. Maybe you wouldn't be so hostile if you had a dog or two growing up :o

Like sbk suggested, maybe you should refrain from visiting, reading and posting on the pets forum.

Sorry sbk,you were right to edit my comments to soft banana/sweet chariass.

Although when he comes on here and threatens to do that to dogs and cats,he should have had the full wrath of the posters.Must be a sado who has never given love to an aninal and seen what you get in return.

We have given a good home and great life to 4 kittens, one of them was literaly thrown over a wall by a thai man,and he thinks he can kick them. Not in his life time will he.

cheers sbk
