YoungFarang13
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080423/ap_on_...e/wal_mart_rice Sam's Club says it will limit customers to four bags at a time of Jasmine, Basmati and long grain white rice. Rice prices have been hitting record highs recently on worries about tight supplies. Sam's Club's restriction is effective immediately at all locations where quantity restrictions are allowed by law. It does not apply to other staples such as flour or oil.

Tesco's been doing the limit's for weeks..............As with all limits they do not count the number of times you and your family go through the check out. geriatrickid
So what? I was unaware that Sam's Clubs operated in Thailand. Outside of parent Walmart's 35% interest in China's TrustMart and stores in Japan there is no retail presence in Asia. This restriction doesn't even apply to Walmart. The restriction is intended to deal with idiot horders and greedy restauranteurs that want to avoid presumed price increases. The thing is, there will not really be any significant increases in the USA where the limit applies because there is a rice surplus in the USA. Thje downside si that all these horders are going to end up with moldy rice, which will cost them, unless of course they put it into your beans and rice cheap meal.............. This has no bearing on the availability or the price of rice in Thailand
britmaveric
4bags? Shi*e load of rice to be honest, dont think the average customer will be buying more than 1bag - normally 15kg bags.

Ricardo
I'd love to see a branch of Wal-Mart here in Thailand ... that would really show the other large retailers a lesson about competition ! But I'm not holding my breath waiting !
