I have a very good Thai female Christian hilltribe friend who is trying hard to earn some decent money. She is looking for job opportunities abroad. I was thinking of Australia, but it might be very difficult for Thai females to get a visa or a (not too highly skilled) job over there. I am not an Australian citizen and also don't have much idea about this matter.

It (almost) goes without saying that the prostitution business is NOT an option.

So my question is : what are the possibilities for Thai females to get a reasonably paid job abroad, for example in Australia ?

She should perhaps take a look at networking via connections among any Expatriate Christian Missionary groups that she might have.

Young & single & small or no money? In USA, forget it.

Yap, u gotta be old, fat, married and rich! (ehm, seen the old, fat and divorced ones though, where are the rich and married ones?)

Unless she has skills nearly no chance, I saw a documentary on New Zealand the other day and it was in relation to them employing unskilled labour for jobs like fruit picking, they were importing staff mainly from the pacific Islands, In Australia we import workers under the 457 visa scheme but they are mostly skilled labour that is in shortage, could be metal workers through to meat workers to specialists in the mining industry.

Hope this helps

Depends on the credentials/background/education/english language ability/work experience/industry expertise etc..... of the Thai woman.

Thanks everyone for the feedback. :o

Cruise ships, pay well, good oppertunity to experience new things and develop language skills.

If you are well informed about cruise ship jobs, maybe you could provide some more detailed information ?

she would certainly need to have english language skill

but some trades related experience will give her higher chance

for instance: pastry chef, maybe some luck with cooking in thai restuarants....but if she doesnt have proper qualification then would need to have established contact with restaurant owner to bring her in (there are others, but seem the more traditional male roles such as carpenter and such)

otherwise, nurses qualifications are in high demand here

in israel its fruit picking or green house work also for the women: tomatoes and peppers; or flowers. u can read all the threads related to that: she has to pay big money to a manpower company, and they do the rest. its not wonderful conditions, but is better then thailand as far as making money if she makes it past the second year (to return the amount she borrowed plus the interest).. thai women here (israel) dont get suckered in to prostitution as far as i know and i follow all the worker rights stuff (the preference here is for east european women for that particular job opening) although many thai women seem to go for the 'little sister/big brother' type thing (she finds a thai boyfriend that can take care of her, visits on weekends, etc, and she gets the benefit of having a male looking after her, and some pocket money, this is after hours, and provides companionship and fun in contrast to the long and hard work hours and conditions); most of the women here came with a partner already. very few thai women here work in the 'taking care of old folks' sector but some do, if they speak english... thats also thru a manpower company.

if she's hilltribe, anyway u better check that she has a thai id and passport since many dont seem to (from other threads that is my impression)...

also restaruant workers although they are being limited here now....
