I agree. I was standing out side a 7-11 sipping a cool beverage, when two (cute) Thai girls came out and started to get on their scooters. One said to the other, Farung, tum arai tee nee, and the the other said, pood mai dai, my kaojai. The whole time me staring at them, sipping my drink. They assume that any farung can not speak Thai, and even if they know some english, they are shy to use it most of the time.

If you go 'shopping' at night, you will find night girls, but if you shop in the day time, you will probably find 'nice' girls. That's true anywhere and the 'shopping' here in CM is as good as it gets. Unfortunately, I'm restricted to window shopping as I'm [mostly] happily married now.

Yes, better to give out the mobile number that the house phone number. They can call you on that years later and if the current "her indoors" takes the call it can take some explaining. (even if it is five years down the track)

I am arrving in Chiang Mai early next month for an extended stay of 6 months to see how I like it before commiting myself longterm.

Without stepping out of line here what is it like in Chaing Mai for a single guy. is it possible to meet nice women around the age of late 20's early mid 30's, are they receptive to going out to the movies, dinner etc? day's out sight seeing...stuff like that.

I've been out of the dating game for quite a long time, and would like to play again! So any thoughts on the subject much appreciated.

I have been to Chiang mai before but just for a few days a few years ago so never got to check much out.

as with all women, you have to learn how to approach them. (it took me 3 months to learn and have been dating quite a bit). thai women are like across between wild birds and cats, very curious and very ready to take flight, so take it nice and slow

then you need to learn how to keep them interested, while inspiring them to be interesting... hehe work of a lifetime for me i suppose... hehe

Dating is quite easy in Chiang Mai, just go to any of the many music pubs there... Riverside for example, plenty of farang & thai there, v easy to get to know people there ! Assuming you're going for the non-hooker type like me you will also be loving pure thai clubs like monkey, warmup etc.. fantastic looking women there, mostly educated and relatively well off..

bar-girls aside - a quick summation of the difference between east and west is that with thai women is that they are aware that males have penises and like to use them - meaning that it is ok to acknowldge that you have a penis ans exual needs. they know the drill from their thai hubbies.

From what I can gather viagra is available from all Pharmacies in Thailand, but not all drug stores. As for the price, well I think that depends on the quantity you buy. I've heard others mention a huge range in pricing, from 800 for 4 to 1800 for 4 so I can't help much on that one. Best to buy them from the U.S. online before you get here and bring them/have them sent with/to you as they certainly don't appear to be any cheaper out here.

Sorry, I didn't take the time to read through ALL the replies, but the ones I did read seem mostly fun, I just want to warn the OP a little bit, as a new person here, please be aware, that everyone you meet here, that takes an interest in helping you, FIND AN APARTMENT, FIND FURNITURE, FIND A GUESTHOUSE IN PHUKET, GETS YOU A TUK-TUK, THE TUK-TUK DRIVER, etc, all these wonderful new nice friends, that are so much more helpful and and nice than your friends back home let me just be the devils advocate here, and warn you about the commission system and tell you that they are ALL GETTING IT, EVEN THOUGH YOU CAN'T IMAGINE IT IN YOUR WILDEST DREAMS.

So please, don't do what I did, and double reward them, by filling their car with gas, taking them to a nice lunch or dinner, a night of drinking, because they helped you shop for furniture, as well as paying them for their services. And then don't think they are the nicest friends you ever had and take them on a paid vacation because they deserve it, you are alone anyway (I am/was a woman here, so hookers aren't really my thing), and gosh, your friends boyfriend even carried your bags (yes, he made 20,000 baht that day off my furniture, plus a full tank of gas, plus lunch, plus got paid to be my worker, etc.

Please don't think they have some ETHICS and IF you paid them to work for you, they won't take commission, or that IF they are your girlfriend, they won't take commission off the apartment you are renting, and the furniture you are buying, and the everything else, the maid, the whatever you can possibly think of.

YOu will be more popular here than you have ever been in your life. You will get tons of attention. YOu will have every girl smile at you. But no matter how good looking you are, or are not, they only see one thing, and that is $$$$$$.

Some people here are very skilled, they will pay, will wait before they ask you for stuff, they are not stupid, don't let that fool you. You are not the first farang they ever met. I am not saying that they do not think a farang boyfriend is better than a Thai b/f, they will tell you for sure, that their Thai man beat them up, drank too much, gambled, etc. Because the farang man wants to hear they are better, and I guess they usually are better. But I am not sure that is what Thai girls think. Farang girls think that and of course we are right. A THai girl might think you are NOT better because you have big feet and not give a shit that her Thai man gambles away all the money because that is what she would do too!!?? Only we think he is an a-hole because of that.

I recently saw a show on National Geo that stated "Chinese people think of gambling as an investment" same as putting money in the stock market (talking about Chinese in Hong Kong) because "eventually it pays off" you just have to do it enough times. I guess that is true. Only you may have to do it more times than you have available in your life. I mean, I guess MOST people have to do it more times than they can reasonably do it in their life times, so that is not an investment in my opinion. But, hey, it gave me a new way to look at it. And to look at their idea of fate. IF you can invest 6 million dollars, one dollar at a time, you might win something, but I don't have 6 million dollars extra. However, I might have, 100K for example, to invest, and get back, for sure, at 5%.

Basically, things are not logical here, so don't look for that, and try to lock up your money as if you were going to Vegas before you come, just in case, you lose control, it seems to happen to the best of us, or according to some TV people, to the worst of us. Good luck, which ever one you are.
