Featured Replies

Does anybody know if there is a maximum amount of cash that i am able to take out of thailand?

Thanks in advance,

PST.

Bt 50 thousand in Baht cash I believe. But (almost) any amount if you do the

transaction through the official channels e.g. Bank.

Oh, and it's 500k cash if only going to surrounding countries.

Thanks, basically i'm goin back to the uk for a few weeks, and need to take roughly 5k stirling, tried to do a western union transfer, but expensive and also my thai bank needed to see work permit which i dont have.

What are the chances do you reckon of getting stopped? how much woukd they take?

I assume you're talking about cash, not traveller's cheques. If so, be careful if you put it through the x-ray machines. There have been quite a few stories of cash and jewellery being stolen by airport staff from inside the x-ray machine. Keep it in your shirt pocket.

convert it to sterling at a money changer first

Ok,so if i do convert it to stirling, and get stopped will they take anything over 50000bht? i would transfer it,but my thai bank were adamant they needed a work permit copy.

Cant really see any other way of getting it back.

not sure many would even know the exchange rate anyway - if it is in sterling and carried on your person you won't have a problem

accompany your gf to the bank and get her to make the transaction.
