We arrived a few weeks ago, bought a Condo in Bang Sare, and moved in. We entered on a Non immigrant O-A multi entry visa.

It is my understanding that at some stage we must register with the Municipal office in Bang Sare, to confirm our residence here.

Is that correct? If so, what is the Thai word for such document?

I also understand that after that we must within 90 days register with the immigration office in Jomtien(?).

I am buying a new car. I was told by the dealer that I need a confirmation document from immigration about my residence permit at my address. Is that correct? If so, what is the Thai name for that immigration document?

These are obvious newbie questions that may already have been answered on this site, but I couldn't find where.

Don't know about any municipal registration requirement for foreigners...at least not in Bangkok and Pattaya areas, where I have lived for the past 10 years. Foreigners do have to register with the closest immigration police office every 90 days IF they will be staying in Thailand for MORE than 90 days at a time. This is just a 1 page form that takes about 5 minutes to complete and is available at the immigration office. Just take your passports with you and they will accept the form and place a notice in your passport when the next 90 day report is due. There is no fee for this service.

As for buying a car, at the same immigration office, what you need is the form that confirms your residence in Thailand, sometimes called a Residency Certificate. Again, this is just a 1 page form and the fee was B 200 a few years when I bought my cars. Again, take your passports and rental or purchase contract (and/or "house book" Tambien Baan) with you when you get this form. You will need this same form (get two originals) when you apply for a Thai drivers license.

You don't need to know the specific Thai names for these forms because they are Thai/English bilingual. Hope you are a native English speaker or learned the language, otherwise, your screwed!

Good luck.

I'm going to move this to the Visa section, where you'll have more chance of getting answered properly.

The O-A visa gives you 1 year from entry, so indeed every 90 days you'll have to confirm your address of residence.

If you reside in Bang Sare, The jomtien (soi 5) immigration office is where you'll have to be!

As I understand it, if you own the condo, you should have a Yellow Household Book (Tabien Bahn)

and your names will be registered in that book. Probably by the local Amphur office.

Check with the lawyer who assisted you in your purchase.

That book will then be all the proof you need to buy the car.

Yes you must also report your address to immigration every 90 days,

but that is a seperate issue.

Thanks for those responses.

I went to immigration this morning to register my address and get a registration certificate. I only took my title deed for the condo along and my passport & photos. That seemed to be enough. then went and put deposit on teh car, for which they didn't even want to see anything but my passport.
