Police admit difficulties in net porn crackdown

CHIANG MAI: -- A senior police officer conceded today that the control of pornographic websites was almost impossible, as most were registered abroad.

Pol. Maj. Gen. Jirut Prommobon, commander of the Chiang Mai provincial police force, said that arrests could only be made easily if websites were registered in Thailand.

Nonetheless, he said that he had ordered his officers to strictly enforce anti-pornography measures, and to launch a sweeping crackdown on shops selling pornographic CDs.

Shops which once sold pornographic material openly were now increasingly hiding their wares to evade police capture, he noted.
