I'm nearly done with AUA Book 3 in their Thai course and have already finished Benjawan Becker's Beginner-Advanced books. Of all the course materials I've used, I find the format in AUA's books......tonal exercises, writing, reading narratives and asking lots of questions concerning the narratives......the most helpful.

I'm shopping for a follow on book to the AUA book 3. Can anyone offer any suggestions?

Thanks from Udon

AUA has a few other books, have you gone through the rest of those? I haven't used them personally, but I know that in addition to books 1-3 there are R and W (for "reading" and "writing"), Course Book A (Small Talk), and Course Book B (Getting Help).

Have you read Mary Haas' Thai Reader yet? Has things like Aesop fables and basic articles about Thailand. The content is dated (laughably so in a few places--hey, it's 50 years old), but I like the book anyway.

Then there's the hefty "Thai Cultural Reader", which should keep anyone occupied for a while. Also somewhat dated, since it was compiled in 1976, but well put together. Of the same vintage as the rest of the AUA Thai material.
