Hi

First time I've used a forum so hope correct, if not my apologies.

I am trying to find out which would be the best visa for my purpose, the more I read the more confused I get.

I am a 53 year old (DOB 21/12/1954) UK citizen currently residing in the UK with my wife a Thai national she has just completed her 2 year spouse visa, passed her UK Citizen Test and has a been granted indefinite leave to remain, however I have just taken early retirement and would like to leave cold England for the sunnier climes of Thailand but am unsure of the most appropriate visa for my purposes and would appreciate some information.

Apart from living in Thailand I'd also like to use it as a base to tour other countries in the area as and if finances permit, and making trips back to the UK as required.

Financially, I have a works pension, savings in both England & Thailand and will be renting out our house, so whilst not rich are reasonably secure.

Get a multi entry non immigrant O visa from an honorary Consulate in UK. That will allow a 90 day stay on each entry for a year and with your travel fits. If you want to extend your stay for retirement you will need proof of 65k per month income or 800k in Thai bank for three months or 40k family income if for family (Thai wife). You can do this during the last 30 days of any 90 day entry.

Phil,

You are in the best forum for Thai Visa matters with very knowledgeable people around.

Apply and start with a Multiple Non-Immigrant “O” Visa, which actually will be valid for a full year and if handled right, can be extend by an additional 3 months. This visa opens you all the way to whatever you want to do in the future visa-wise. I recommend you to google and visit the homepage of the Thai Consulate in Hull and you will notice lots of useful info there.

Hull and Birmingham in your country are btw very good places to get such a visa. Come back to this forum if you do have more questions.

I am glad to see you plan to rent your house in the UK.

That may well provide enough income for you to rent in Thailand

and adds to the "income" that you can show to justify your visa here.

It also provides a bolt hole if things go pear shaped in LOS (Land of Smiles)

or if the life does not agree with you.

Make sure you get a good health insurance policy to cover you for

eventualities in Thailand.
