Liverish Posted October 17, 2004 Posted October 17, 2004 Is this another Thaksin pipedream ??? 40,000 pupils , where are they going to find the huge number of good teachers to teach the teachers ?? say 20 pupils per class , that means they need to find 20,000 good english teachers ! 5555555555 looks like there could be a big demand for lowlife teachers soon , but can you get them out of the bar ?
sriracha john Posted October 18, 2004 Posted October 18, 2004 They should start with an "English for Prime Ministers" class. As the alledged holder of a doctorate from an American university, his level of English is abominable. I agree with your points, Liverish.... but not your math skills... 20,000 teachers teaching 20 students would accomadate 400,000 students, not the 40,000 as posted. Still, your points are valid.
Thetyim Posted October 18, 2004 Posted October 18, 2004 I think he will gets lots of volunteers to teach English to the bartenders.
Khun Larry Posted October 18, 2004 Posted October 18, 2004 Is this another Thaksin pipedream ???40,000 pupils , where are they going to find the huge number of good teachers to teach the teachers ?? say 20 pupils per class , that means they need to find 20,000 good english teachers ! Ijustwannateach Posted October 18, 2004 Posted October 18, 2004 Maybe they're hoping we'll all volunteer if they give us extra khanom!

Darth Bangkok Posted October 20, 2004 Posted October 20, 2004 don't be silly. thais will be the teachers. and they will use incoherent textbooks that meander from topic to topic without starting at the beginning because there is absolutely no organization to them.
cojones Posted October 20, 2004 Posted October 20, 2004 don't be silly. thais will be the teachers. in the land of the blind , the one eyed man is king ...
RDN Posted October 20, 2004 Posted October 20, 2004 ......looks like there could be a big demand for lowlife teachers soon , but can you get them out of the bar ? Well, if they made it easier for holders of "Retirement" visas to get work permits and teach, then maybe they would get a lot of good English teachers. I wouldn't mind doing a few hours a day. I already teach my g/f

eljeque Posted October 24, 2004 Posted October 24, 2004 Quote: I already teach my g/f I teach mine as well. I bet that more poor Thai women learn ESL from their bf than from any other source. The same goes for maids. Thailand: The new Hub of ESL for teachers. Isn't that pedagogy? My ex-wife lives up country. She lived in the US for five years, so her English is nearly fluent. While I was speaking to some of her friends in Thai, I asked them about their jobs. They told me that they were teachers. My wife later told me that they actually taught English, and that was why Thai people cannot speak English - because the teachers cannot speak English either. Their might be a few good paying positions for senior teachers or administrators - curriculum developers if this actually gets off the ground. There are alos a lot of attractive teachers whom one could meet.
