I am looking to start some private lessons and I have narrowed the search of schools down to Walen and Pro Language. Does anyone have any thoughts as to which one is better? Any experiences from either place would also be welcome.

Both are well regarded, but you'd need to pick one, based on your personal opinion of both after meeting with them.

I suggest go taking the 'free' lesson each school offer, as well as talking to (interviewing) the teachers to see how well they 'mesh' with your way of thinking/learning. Outline to them what you expect to get out of the school, be it reading skills, conversational thai, etc.

Different people learn differently; one person may rave about a school while another may slam its teaching method. What ever works for you is the one you should pick. The two schools you mention differ widely in their teaching style and methodology. It is almost like comparing apples to oranges. I would also ask if you can sit in on a class, as a non-participant, to observe. Talk to currently enrolled students, while they are on break and AWAY from the prying ears of the staff at the school. See what they think, get feedback etc.

BE AWARE once enrolling and paying your money to any of the thai language schools you can't get your money back. You still have the credit for unused hours of schooling but there are no cash refunds. I strongly suggest that BEFORE you pay for any schooling, find out if it's gonna work for you. Your only bargaining chip is the money you pay them to teach you, use it wisely..

You can search the T/V Language Forum and get feedback (good and bad) on both Pro and Walen schools. At the end of the day, it is your decision.

Good luck,
