what are your thoughts regarding how many thai pay tax. my thoughts observations are not too many. if this were the case where does the government get its money. just some examples, building workers, market workers, farm workers, cycle, motocycle, small car repair shops, no tax, i have to believe this is the majority of the population.

I think most people in Thailand avoid paying taxes. That is one thing that I LIKE about the government. In the states, 33% of my income goes to the government. :o At least in Thailand, it is the wealthier companies that end up paying most of the taxes, not the average Thai individual. If your average Thai cart pusher has to pay taxes from their meager salary, I think you might have a revolt on your hands. And if you ask where the government gets its money, also keep in mind that Thailand has huge natural gas reserves in the South.

Millions of Thai workers pay income tax. Nevertheless, the largest part of the government revenue does come from VAT, various concession fees, and proft from government owned corporations.
