Dear Dom

Does your household really produce that much rubbish each day? Or are you running a business of some kind?

I would suggest you consider (if you haven't already done so) how much of your 'rubbish' you can actually recycle or reuse, or sell. You might be amazed what some people will pay for old paper, plastic bottles and a wealth of other stuff. If you have a neighbour with a pig, that's the food waste taken care of for a start.

We incinerate rubbish that cannot be sold, that we cannot re use, or can't be composted. We have an old oil drum with some holes around the bottom for air intake for the purpose. We keep a lid on it to keep it dry and fire it up every two or three days, depending on if it's full or smelly!

(our drum is pretty rusty now and about to collapse. We'll have to throw it away....er, sell it for scrap, I mean, and get another.)

Hope this helps,

cheers, Himachal.

They are simple to build using concrete house blocks, any Thai handyman should be able to do it for less than 1k including material.

You need 38 blocks

1/4 cub met of sand

8 x 60cm lengths of 8mm rebar

1 bag cement

1 x length of 50 x 8mm flat bar.

Build a concrete slab 85 x 65 cm, lay your first course of blocks in a U shape ,2 blocks wide x 1 1/2 blocks deep (gives you a 80 x 60 cm incinerator).

Repeat for second course.

Third course lay your 50 x 8mm bar across front (to lay front courses of blocks on ) and lay your 8mm rebar @ 7 cm centres across the course.

Lay 4 more courses of blocks in a box construction , a sheet metal lid and your in business.

Depending on what your burning and where, it might pay to get a section of fine wire mesh to put on top while burning to prevent embers flying around.

The open front 2 courses high is to shovel out your ash to put on the garden.
