Hi

I am currently on a Non-Immigrant Multiple O Visa (3 x 90 days) issued in the UK on the basis of supporting my Thai wife and Thai passported kids. I am 50 on June 8 so hoping to get an O-A Visa. NB My first 90 days expires on 29/6/08.

If I can't get the paperwork together in time I suspect I will have to do a visa run. As I'm a non-driver can anyone advise where best to go from Korat and mode of transport ? Also, is it as simple as leaving the country and re-entering with a new stamp.

I would be grateful for any advice.

regards

Keith

1. I suspect you have a multi entry non immigrant O visa valid for one year from date of issue (which could be used for up to almost 5x90 or many shorter stays).

2. You appear to be planning an extension of stay for retirement (not an OA visa which you obtain in country of nationality). For that you need 65k per month income (Embassy letter) or 800k in Thai account 3 months (Bank Letter) or a combination of the two to meet 800k annual amount. That and your passport/Tm.7 application and 1,900 baht is about all you need for paperwork. You do that during the last 30 days of any 90 day entry.

3. If you need to obtain a new entry of 90 days there should be easy public transport to Nong Khai and you can cross the bridge/obtain visa on arrival for Laos and then turn around and return to Thailand for a new 90 day stamp. Yes it is easy - but you must enter/exit other country.

Thanks for the quick response.

I was dealing with the consulate staff at Hull, UK and was led to believe an O-A was what I needed. I got a police record check done in the UK and a medical here in Thailand which was seemingly unnecessary. Not to worry, assuming my letter confirming pension payment/lump sum come on time I need only nip down to Bangkok and get my retirement letter. Then present the correct form etc at Korat Immigration Office.

Is the issue of the extension instant ?

Finally, should I have to go to Laos do you need a visa to cross on a UK passport ?

Yes. If needed you could stretch your Non O Visa out till around April/June 2009.

Get the bus to Nong Kai , pop over the border and come back again. You will need a photo for your Laos Visa. The Laos Visa can be obtained at the border (about 1,500 Baht)

As said you can apply for the retirement extension 30 days before the expiry of any entry.

Go along to Korat Immigration office and have a chat with them. They are very helpful and friendly. Unlike some.

The retirement extension will be instant and as you say police report and medical is not needed.

You will need the letter from the UK Embassy confirming your income.

Hull can not issue a long stay non immigrant O-A visa - so if you do it in the UK is has to be at the Embassy in London and medical/police check/proof of 800k in UK bank would have been required. On entry into Thailand you would have received a one year stay.

Thanks to you both.

The Consulate at Hull carry the application forms etc on their website for applying to them which is a bit confusing. No mention of only being able to do it at London. I know they don't issue passports there because I had to go to London to get my kids Thai passports. Anyway, I live here now so am past dealing with Hull.

The extension route looks to be fairly simple and as I support my Thai wife/kids and will be 50 in June I guess that gives me 2 options.

That it does - and the retirement will be suggested if you meet the requirements as it is easier for everyone concerned.

If the children are yours you also have a 3rd option and that requires no financial test - living with child provision of Police order 606/2006

(applicable only to

at a time.

As regards his visa,I see that he is married.....can he not apply for a Marriage visa instead of a Retirement visa ?

Marriage is 40k baht per month as opposed to Retirement 65k or 800k in the bank.

Same result but not as much finance required ??

He can apply for one year extension of stay under three areas - family, retirement, over 50 with Thai child.

Yep. And the 3rd option is even less expensive. No money required :o

Lopburi3, What are all the required documents for an extension of stay for someone over 50 with a Thai child. I am married to my daughter's mother and we do reside in the same house. I do get a pension and was showing that before but I do believe that now I don't have to show this information when it's for our child and not for support of wife. Thank you for any help.

Lopburi3, I understand most of what you've put here but still have a few questions.

1. Application Form

What is the number of this form?

2. Copy of the passport of the applicant

I do understand this and what pages have to be copied but do I need to supply new photos of myself and my family with this?

3. Copy of the proof of relationship

such as marriage evidences, birth

certificate....

Understood

4. The evidences of having Thai

nationality of the marriage couple,

father, mother, ordinary child, or

adopted child such as ID Card,

census registration, or other papers

organization or government

Not quite sure what you mean here.

I found this on another thread but don't understand everything Badbanker is listing:

1. Copy of the National Police Office Order 606/2006 in English and Thai

What is this, is it required and where do you get this from?

2. Passport and photocopies of main page, entry stamp page and visa page.

understood

3. Original Thai Birth Certificate of son/daughter and photocopies.

Understood

4. Original Thai Marriage Certificate and photocopies.

Understood

5,. Original Letter from doctor on Hospital Letter Head confirming he delivered my son/daughter

Wouldn't this be on the birth certificate or is there a letter required from the doctor?

6. Copies of House Registration certificate of wife and son/daughter

Understood

7. Copy of wife’s Thai ID card

Understood

It is my understanding that one does not have to show funds (bank account, pension status or bank transfers) when making this application, is this true?

Thank you,

SB

1. TM.7 extension of stay form with new 4x6cm photo attached.

2. Passport/copies of pages with bio data and visa stamps and departure card.

3.

4. Birth Certificate and copy of Home Register listing her. As you are married and if child under age to sign for you wife ID card/home register probably also required (as well as marriage certificate).

Just to clarify this, Is there ANY requirement that one would have to show funds coming in to do this visa for a person over 50 with a Thai child?

Officially No. But as you will probably know different offices have different rules.

I understand Korat want to see some income and some movement in your bank acc. Minimal but something.
