Laem Chabang Police Volunteers arrested with firearms.

In the early hours of Sunday Morning 5 Police Volunteers from Laem Chabang was arrested at a Police Checkpoint on the Sukumvit Road in front of Banglamung Police Station. They were caught in possession of a total of 5 firearms, 2 of which were later found to be pellet guns.

Despite an attempt to escape the men were arrested and taken to Banglamung Police Station. The group were also caught with 2-way radios and handcuffs. It is illegal for Police volunteers to carry guns and 3 of the men were arrested and charged with possession of an unregistered firearm, despite claims that they were carrying the weapons to protect themselves.

The men will appear in court later this week.

Down on the beach the other night, one of these guys had pulled their pick-up right on the footpath.

Huge light bar on top, massive "tourist police volunteer" stickers on both doors of the truck and of

course they're stomping up the beach in their paramilitary uniforms, it's just too much.

I've noticed the regular tourist police have a bicycle patrol, they're politely dressed in shorts and

polo shirts and it sends a completely different message. Also they seem professional not like

they're off on some power-trip because they now feel they can go roust anyone at their pleasure. :o

Wasn't there a post about 2 weeks ago by somebody who was asked for money for some imaginary crime by a similar bunch to this. Could be a new bunch of extortion practitioners.

Funny but just last weekend I was in Ban Chang and saw a Police Volunteer openly carrying a revolver and handcuffs on his belt with no attempts to hide them at all.

Maybe it's not illegal in Rayong Province?
