What version of FF are you using? By default, the spell checker is enabled (AFAIK). When you are typing and misspell a word it will automatically underline it in red. Note that you may need to download a dictionary; to do so, right-clickpress Ctrl and click on any text field, enable spellchecking if necessary, and then use the provided Languages menu to download a dictionary.
