Combining Different Visa Types And The 90 Day Rule?

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I hope this is a question some of you can answer quickly as I've spent a bit of time trying to find the answer on the web and had no luck.

I'm 27 and from the USA.

Since mid-February I have stayed in Thailand for a total of 70 days using the entry stamp one gets at the airport (over a total of 3 entries). I have also stayed 30+ days on an actual tourist visa I obtained in Laos. I'm now leaving Thailand for two weeks in Italy. When I come back to Thailand can I just get another 20 days allowance with an entry stamp?

So basically, I'm wondering if having gotten an actual tourist visa and used it for some days affects the 90 day rule of the entry stamp. I'd like to make a short stay back in Thailand and it'd be nice if I didn't have to hassle with the embassy in Rome as I don't plan to spend much time there.

Thanks,

Bill

You are likely to be denied aircraft boarding for flight to Thailand unless you have onward tickets and they are willing to count your days, so I would highly recommend obtaining a new tourist visa. The rule is 90 days in a six month period - although tourist visa entry does not count toward that total it does nothing to reduce it either. So at best you would get 20 days after a long examination of passport (if airline lets you fly).

Thanks for the heads-up. I've come into Thailand 5 times now and never had this happen to me (as many times I have not had a departing flight upone arrival).

What is it that the airlines would check to make them not want to let me board the plane?

At any rate I have to leave Thailand again two weeks after I return so it'd be a bit wasteful to get a visa so I suppose I really ought to have my flight to France before I fly back in here.

Thanks again,

Bill

They would not want you to board the plane if you do not have a Visa and do not have return/onward flight ticket.

If for any reason Thai Immigration do not let you enter the airline would be responsible for flying you back.

Good to know.
