Hi all,

I'm new to the site i'm Irish and am 27 years old. My non b ends on the 3 july 08. I trying to fgure out the cheapest way to get another visa for a couple of months as i will apply for an education visa by taking some thai course.

I have been quoted 6,900 for a 2 month tourist visa ths seems very high to me.

can anyone help me.

As to what did the price refer? I hope it included a trip to the Consulate outside Thailand to obtain the visa and return. But not sure why you consider the price excessive (although you can probably do it cheaper on your own). The visa will cost about 1,000 baht and will require an overnight stay so you have hotel/transportation that this price probably includes as well as the visa fee.

What would your advice be for someone in my situation coming to the end of his non-b but looking to stay another 2 months before i apply for an education visa?

You could use 60 days of your allowed 90 days on visa exempt entry (six month period limit). That would just cost the expense of entry into another country and return.

Having an Irish passport you are allowed visa exempt entry into Thailand for a period of up to 30 days at a time. You can use this option for up to 90 days in a six month period.

So if you are in Bangkok you can that what are called visa run bus (misnomer) to border of Cambodia, exit Thailand, obtain visa/enter Cambodia, exit Cambodia and enter Thailand getting a 30 day permitted to stay visa exempt entry stamp. All inclusive cost is about 2,000 baht from services that advertise in English language papers. You can also do it by yourself but from Bangkok it is probably best to use a service the first time at least.
