Hewlett Packard Printers Scrunching Paper On Pulling-in

Recommended Posts

I have had two Hewlett Packard printers. They draw in my 100 gsm A4 printing paper at very high speed. This means that about one in 10 or 15 prints gets wrapped around the rollers necessitating removal of the back cover, and ruination of the sheet. Both a cheap HP multifunction in 2000 AND my present top-of-the-range multifunction in 2008 do exactly the same thing!

I have tried placing the paper at varying positions -- close in to further out, and with the side-guide neatly against it -- but nothing seems to help. Surely others must have experienced this problem. Any solution? Thanks.

Are they in air conditioned rooms? If not, possibly the high humidity is causing the problem. Did you try a different brand of paper? I have several HPs at work and haven't had that problem but they are all in AC environments. However none are multi-function.

//edit - does it do it both with the feeder and the single sheet feed?

Dust is a big problem here , and along with the humidity it can create havoc for close tolerance machinery.

I have a drop cover to place over the printer for when it is not in use in an attempt to keep its dust ingestion down.

you might want to take it to a printer repair shop and ask them to give it a birthday.

I had this problem with an older small HP laserjet (5L) and HP told me it was a design flaw and nothing could be done... :o

At one printing shop i worked at they kept all the various papers in a humidity free closet, with a big container of dessicant. Perhaps you could try making a small versions with some plastic kitchen tubs and see if this helps. Like Tywais said, it could be humidity related.

Thanks for replies. My environment is clean and low-humidity. I load only one or two sheets at a time into the tray. Have not tried other papers but this one is good-quality plain inkjet 100gsm A4. Never had this fast-grab-and-scrunch problem with other makes of printer. Makes me think it is a design flaw or characteristic of HPs. Seems like the mechanism is too rapid.

That's a piece of information missing in the OP. :o I assumed you meant a HP laser printer. Certainly would try a different paper, perhaps Canon paper or Konica (if available).

I always use paper from Double A, never a problem.

However when using cheaper paper from Tesco's for example, no end of problems!

Currently only use Epson printer (color laser) and Brother mono laser multifunction.
